Quick update. I received Simota1's old red grounding kit in the mail yesterday. I have to say he did a great job putting these together (based on his Z I wouldn't expect anything less). I've been looking at the Stillen kit for a while and I'm definitely glad I waited. I'm also still waiting on my aluminum overflow tank :(. I was told it shipped out a few days ago, but still haven't received any tracking information and communication between myself and the distributer is spotty at best. Hopefully I'll get that by weeks end that way I can install the tank and the grounding kit at once. The tank is an easy swap out, so when I go to get it airbrushed to match the "burnt" effect on my intakes it shouldn't be a big issue putting the plastic tank back for a few days.
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/06/26/upe5uha5.jpg Speaking of "burnt" effect, I located and purchased a fairly rare used part that will go great within my intakes and painted overflow tank yesterday, the best part... no wait! Here's a little sneak peak. Hopefully I have them in my hands within the next week! http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/06/26/8azu6eza.jpg |
that last set of photos are epic! larger pics mandatory! Use imageshack

I'll try to post them again tonight...

My Top Secret oil catch cans where delivered today :). Gonna try to install this Sunday. I need to replace the hoses, since they are pretty gross, but i sent Z1 a message so hopeful i get some red ones within the week. I'm also gonna have to take some of my Z1 hoses out, so I'll be posting those for sale within the week.

Had a few hiccups, but I finally installed my Top Secret Catch Cans and grounding kit. I had to drill a new hole in my engine bay for the driver side catch can, but in the end I love the way they look!!! Thanks to Zuperman 370 for dealing with my constant messages and questions over the past few weeks. I'm ordering some red vacuum tubing tomorrow for the cans. I also think I may be ordering the TS engine cover real soon ;). As for the grounding wires... I can't say enough about Simota's work, very, very happy with the results.
Sorry for the crappy iPhone pic. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/07/01/9y2y3ebu.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Had these made yesterday at a local shop, they produced all the decals for my Camel Bike a few years back so I'm always open to helping the little guys. I'm thinking I'm gonna put the round Top Secret logos on my catch cans, just not sure which color to go with matte black or red. Also had them cut me some Work decals to put on my side skirts, again though not sure which color to go with. What do you guys think? Anyone notice the flaw in the Top Secret decals? I didn't see it until I got home last night.

I vote keep that bay clean without the stickers...no advertising needed, the parts speak for themselves! Loving your engine bay!

Finally received my aluminum overflow tank today... It took forever to get it, but the end product is great. I think I may get the mishimoto power steering reservoir next.

So I installed the overflow tank and love it, however the polished aluminum look isn't working for me. That said I'm thinking of going in three different directions:
1) Have my painter match it to the 40th exterior. This would pull in the color of my engine cover, however I'm not sure how long I'll be keeping that. 2) Paint it myself to match the bronze oil cap, the dress up bolts and a few other items I painted to pull in the color of my wheels. 3) Have my painter airbrush it to match the burnt titanium of my catch cans and intakes. Only problem I see there is the aluminum is polished, so it won't match it perfectly. I'd be painting the overflow tank as well as a soon to be purchased aluminum power steering reservoir tank. What do everyone think? Here's a pic with the tank installed, oh I ended up putting a red decal on my passenger side oil catch can. Not sure it's working for me, ill make a final assessment once I install my red vacuum hose tomorrow. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/07/08/yta5uvyq.jpg |

Alright, so I've decided I'm gonna try out the bronze paint on the aftermarket overflow tank. Hopefully I like how that looks, if it turns out that I hate it I'll just take it to my painter and have him body match it. I also purchased some Mishimoto products this week including their 370z radiator hose set (i'll be selling my z1 hoses once these are installed), their universal power steering reservior and 4 of their 10mm x 100cm hoses in red. I hope to use these for my oil catch cans as well as to replace other hoses in my bay... I should get these in the next week or two.
I'm also debating on whether or not I want to purchase some aftermarket seats. The product I like most is the Status Spa icon series. It gives you complete customization of the seat, which i love and I'm really digging the diamond stitch look. That said I've narrowed my options to two... what do you all think? |
^red
|
Gotta match the red stitching on a 40th. I say red as well.
|
Red!!!
|
If u go aftermarket seats.....u have the red theme already going for your car, i'd go red:tup:

My Mishimoto power steering reservoir came today! Product seems to be good quality... I'm gonna wait to install until my Mishimoto hoses come so I can switch those out at the same time, but I'll keep everyone updated. Given its a universal product I'm gonna have to fabricate the tank a little to get it mount how I want it, shouldn't be too bad though.

digging the look. so what exactly does the oil catch can do? prevents oil from getting sucked through your throttle body right? and where did you relocate your fuse box? how difficult is the install? any modification/relocation needed besides the fuse box? |
oh and where did you get the oil catch cans?

The cans are Top Secret i bought them used from a forum member, but good luck finding any of these for sale. They are very hard to come by. That said several other vendors have them, Mishimoto comes to mind check out their site, plus they would match the polished aluminum look |
ok so i have a question about the breather hose that goes from the engine to the intake. what are those little black plastic containers that are in between the connections? can i just get rid of them and put a hose that goes straight to both connections so it will look cleaner?
i was thinking about doing this setup ----> http://www.the370z.com/diy-section-d...cans-370z.html im planning on using just one oil catch can and putting together a "T" connection. i will put up a pic of my setup in a bit. |
dont know what the plastic container is, but i know what you are talking about. Yes you can just get rid of them. You may also want to check out Navyboy's build thread. He recently purchased an aftermarket coolant/ oil catch can combo that looks real nice. I would have done that route if i wasnt afixed on Top Secret stuff.
Here is is thread. I think japanparts still sells the part. http://www.the370z.com/members-370z-...-na-build.html |
