You should see me drive it. :bowrofl:

Hey Spohn, I noticed that you mentioned removing the front grill in thw "What did you do with your Z today" thread. Are you referring to the black plastic slats that sit between the fangs? If so, could you post up a DIY? That is something I would be interested in doing as well.

haitech 12-05-2011 06:50 PM

pics don't work for me

Skeeterbop 12-05-2011 07:18 PM

All the missing pics is due to a problem he had late last month. Probably won't be seeing them unless the photo hosting service can retrieve them.

SPOHN 12-05-2011 08:23 PM

For those of you that don't know last month I ended a nearly four year relationship with my GF. I grew apart and decided to leave. We were living together. Shared a laptop together and I guess my dunb a$$ should of transferred my pics to a hard drive. But I really never thought of it figuring without a doubt she would allow me my pics. But no! She went into my puotobucket account and deleted it all. And all the pics I had on the laptop (nearly 7000) she keepIng those also. Basically trying to hold them over my head in some wild plan to keep me. That's not happing. It's truly a sad thing for myself. Is really hurts me. Some of those pics were of my son. It's really out of character for her. But you know what they say about a scorn woman. Even now I can't believe she doing it. And I'm not going to ever talk to her again so it's a dead stick.

HKYStormFront 12-05-2011 08:39 PM

dude that sucks :( sorry to hear that chris

Skeeterbop 12-05-2011 08:43 PM

Back on the subject of cars, Are you referring to the black plastic slats in the front bumper when you mentioned removing the front grill? I'll be patiently waiting for the pics

SPOHN 12-06-2011 05:07 AM

That's right. I'll have the pics up tomorrow night.

I got a email from my ex this morning. She claims she's going to bring the pics of our laptop to me this morning on a couple of flash drives. Cross fingers. It's going to take some time to get them back on here if so.

Yeah I'm interested in what you're doing there too. If those slats were gone, I could have better access through the front (for inspecting oil lines, and adding/removing the front oil cooler blockoff plate for street driving). On the other hand, the dinky little slats do nothing for incoming small rocks, which have been regularly making dings in the front surface of my oil cooler. It'd be nice to remove them completely, and replace them with a removable wire mesh or something to help with both problems is what I'm thinking.

SPOHN 12-06-2011 09:23 AM

That's my plan to go pick up some mesh this weekend and paint it. Also allows easier access to adjust my oil cooler plate.

Skeeterbop 12-06-2011 07:48 PM

That's coo, I just want to know how to get rid of them. I don't plan on putting in a mesh, since i don't think it will let any more through than already gets through. I just think it would look better without them. I'll check back tomorrow  And hopefully your Ex pulls through with the pictures.

SPOHN 12-06-2011 07:56 PM

By doing what I did it really opens it up so I feel some mesh will make it look more suttle. Course when I use the plati-dip and paint the center section that will help also. I should be able to get them up tomorrow. I move around a lot and didn't bring my camera to upload. But I have to back home tomorrow for a brief moment

Front Grill Removal

I have been planning this for awhile and finally did it. I like the look. All I did was cut it out and sand down the rough edges where they connected. This weekend I'm going to purchase some mesh to put in it's place. I'm also going to buy some Plati-Dip to paint the center section. Those two things will really bring all this together IMO. I'm also about to purchase a power steering cooler so that will take care of the ugly OEM one.

christian370z 12-07-2011 10:23 PM

It would be nice to see some black mesh in place, that would look great! It looks good, I'm glad you left the fangs.

happytheman 12-07-2011 11:00 PM

In for further updates! Looking forward to seeing mesh in place!

haitech 12-07-2011 11:54 PM

I don't know how I feel about mesh. Reminds me of the big body kits back in the day

Looking good Spohn. In for results on that bumper.

SPOHN 12-09-2011 06:59 AM

Thanks guys. Going tomorrow to buy the supplies. Now that I have my pics the Internet is down at the house due to AT&T upgrading. Course there behind schedule as always. Wanted to spend this weekend reloading.

Road Atlanta Track Vids

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dly0BKGUfIQhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Ti5JzAnmwI

wstar 12-10-2011 08:07 AM

Thanks for posting those vids. Looks like a *really* fast course in places.

It's only slightly longer overall than MSR-Houston that I've been running on, but the fact that it's basically one big loop instead of how MSR doubles in on itself lends more lengthy speed sections. I'd love to get out there and run on this someday. What kind of top speeds are you seeing there in the Z? In the video I'm guessing a peak of 140-ish just before braking into that Turn 10 left-right pair of 90's? Hard for me to tell since my gears top out at different points than yours.

In the first vid that Porsche with the blinking brake lights is interesting, is that common at all? Seems like a nice hint for someone with less experience on the track following you. It grabs your attention better, and when you see those pulses, you know you didn't glance his way to catch a quick light tap, he's standing on them persistently.

Mike 12-10-2011 08:12 AM

Great videos Chris!

I hit just about 140 before braking, and thats with up shifting at 8000 rpm and braking a little later than Chris. I think my wing has cost me a little top end speed. Shifting at 8000 instead of redline from 3rd to 4th and 4th to 5th picked up 4mph.

SPOHN 12-10-2011 09:04 AM

Yea I hit 140 a couple times but mostly 135. I'll probably be able to hit it everytime when I go back with more confindence. From what I can see I lifted early slowing the momentum before braking instead of immediately lifting and braking. I could carry more speed in if so. But that will come in time.

Yea the Porsche had some interesting lights. It might be nice if I had a flashing one were our fog light is.

Skeeterbop 12-10-2011 10:28 AM

Awesome videos Spohn! I can't wait to get back to the Southeast once I get out of the military (3 more years). Hopefully I'll have the time and money to do the occasional trackday. Watching those videos makes me want to do it even more.

SPOHN 12-11-2011 07:10 AM

Thanks guys. Get wait to get back there.

ZForce 12-11-2011 11:31 AM

Looking good on the track. Hopefully someday my dream is to track and get on with an instructional track school. We have a few tracks out here, the closet is ThunderHill, then Sears Point and Laguna Seca. I have been once on Laguna Seca but it was like a victory parade lap. Oil cooler coming next month, that is my first step to getting the Z prepped for any track time. This video has given me some motivation. Now if I could find time to read your entire journal.

Powder Coated Parts/ Plasti-Dip Front end

Here's pics from having my intakes and strut bar powder coated in wrinkle red finish. Big thanks to Mike (thepowderpowder.com). I highly recommend him for all your powder coated needs. Great work.

Also I took some time to plati-dip my middle section on my front clip. Really adds great contrast to my car. Going to do my door handles and rear section around the exhaust are next. Also I installed removed the OEM platic grill section and installed some mesh. I really like this look also. Can't wait. Comments welcomed.

Looks great SPOHN. Fang are came out real nice w the Plasti Dip and mesh. Kinda inspires me to cut that grill out.

SPOHN 12-17-2011 11:37 AM

It does look nice. I had to cut a hole in the mesh for the tow hook which I had powder coated also. I'm also going to paint the anchor point for the tow hook. Didn't really think about at the moment. The silver stands out a little.

Alchemy 12-17-2011 11:43 AM

Id like to see pics w the tow hook. Its red I take it?
