On a less happy note, my horn is dead. All the rain and moisture got to it I guess. Caput.

At least the horn is an easy fix. I ordered the JDM sport horns and mixed one of them with one of the stock horns...sounds better IMHO.
I'll give mad reps to anyone who can find a true ferrari sounding horn. |
J-hook rotors look amazing!

They look nice, but are still as heavy as the stock rotors.

That's why I'm going to switch to the Racing Brake slotted 2-piece set.
|
because you have a race car, I dont.
|
And you have a supercharger, I don't. I'm sure if Stillen sold the "Racing Brake" rotors, you'd be all over it.
|
We do carry an upcoming 2-piece rotor.. the DBA 5000 series, which is a fantastic option, and we're excited to get those in for the customers looking for a 2-piece option.
RCZ was looking for a stock rotor upgrade, we discussed the options, and as the brand new J-Hook face pattern rotor was coming out, he jumped on those. Most of our customers who are tracking or looking for ultimate performance will look hard at AP Racing BBKs which also feature 2-piece rotors, and are amazing in comparison to the stock Akebono calipers. |
Ya and how much will those DBA 5000's cost Josh? Pm me if needed.

So, no I wouldn't buy it just because Stillen sells it. They will sell DBA5000's which are much better than the "other" 2-piece rotors being sold on the board. If anything, I would've done my research and gotten the Aussie set. Hunter, 93 OCT. |
i have a race car... i want dba 5000s...

I don't think we should be comparing the stock setup to an AP racing BBK...Its apples to oranges. I've felt GT-R brakes and GT3 RS brakes and Stoptechs and AP's and I know they are leagues better than the stock setup. Granted its partly price and of course I'd be very happy to jump right on the APs, but I am actually interested to see how much can be done with the stock calipers. I'll probably sell the stock BBK and get AP's sooner than later...$$
Installing this weekend: Goodridge SS Brake lines AP Racing Fluid Stillen J-Hook Sport Rotors Stillen Metal Matrix pads After a while I'll be installing Carbotech pads for the track. I will be using temperature strips to see just how hot the brakes are getting. |
yeah, but I am really happy with my $2000 (retail) brembo 6 pot front caliper upgrade. I never boil the fluid anymore and I can brake really really deep into the turns and have confidence the car will stop every time. I paid a lot less since I get wholesale, but even at retail, for the price, its the best upgrade. Uses your stock sport rotors.
|
Eh for that kind of price I'd prefer to pay a bit more and get a whole kit Mike.
|
Nice write up, thanks!
|
sure thing man.
Well, newest ongoing project... "Car diet" - Goal 50lbs off. Removed the trunk hatch weight -2lbs and now my hatch actually opens correctly! Removed privacy cover - 3lbs 45lbs to go. |

Edit: If you get a BBK you can save on weight by losing the spare, since the bigger rotors may not fit that little spare. |
haha, yeah the AP's are about the same size as the stock akebonos so it should clear no problem. However, I don't need a reason to get rid of the spare...
I know right off the bat I can take off another 30-40lbs easily by taking out sub, spare, tools, carpets and getting a lighter battery. |
Well, finally got my J-Hooks. Here's a preliminary set of photos...I love having piles of stuff to install.

Nice RCZ, how come you didn't option out for two piece rotors out of curiosity?
|
Yeah I'm curious as well.
How much do these weight anyway? I'm opting for some 2pc rotors but they're all super expensive for my budget :( |
4 Reasons. 1) planning on getting bbk someday 2) price-they are much cheaper like $650 vs $1800+ for the 2 piece 3) Wanted to test them out 4) I don't think I need 2 piece rotors yet.
Josh mentioned they were coming out right as I was looking to get some new brake components and it was a done deal. Weight 19lb rear, 29.8lbs front. They aren't much lighter than stock, but they should perform much better due to the J Pattern drilling. |
|
Now THAT looks proper with an HDR effect. Definitely done right, beautiful Z and nice photo!
|
Great pic RCZ! I like the carbon nismo wing from the front, more so than i did from the rear.
Dont you have AAA? just remove the spare already and you 50lbs diet is over! I got rid of that sucker asap. Now i need to go on a driver diet! |
That's true, so might as well take all that crap out... I wonder what happens with the subwoofer that normally attaches to the spare tire...Also...taking weight off the rear of the car in a car thats already front heavy isn't exactly a great idea handlingwise.
Gonna look into new battery too. |
Yeah, makes sense to remove weight from the front before the rear. Also i noticed that the spare + fittings help support weight from things you put in the trunk! I think i can just screw the bolt back in with the funky round piece, should give me my structural support back.
|
Slick car as always RCZ.
|
beautiful....
|
Man those wheels make your car look GHEY!
...Sell them to me please! lol I just got a HUGE raise and promotion at work, not to mention I just won $1k in a tournament(LOL VIDEO GAMES) so I'm definately going the supercharged route by next year! |
