^ I didnt think about that, but youre completely right.

Yes, I just looked at stillen's. They used STD.
I called the shop to get my STD numbers 445hp/335tq. |
That's great. Just wanted to make sure the correction factors are the same so it would be a fair comparison :D
So final figures are 445whp/335wtq @ 8psi and 93 octane. |
Yup, and the run 9 minutes before that was 442hp/331tq....so its not like I picked an outlier.

Looking GREAT!!....its amazing how much difference you can see dyno vs. dyno....thats why the mustang is the "heart breaker" but I LOVE tuning on her..nothing really compares with Load bearing.... :tiphat:

Yeah, its crazy how big the difference is. Thanks for the Tune Jack.

Getting back to the engine bay temps...
I firmly believe that a vented hood would work wonders for our cars. Add a better radiator fan setup and thermostat, and you'll be golden. I was sitting in gridlock traffic for an hour last week in 90F weather and did a little research. Idling with the A/C on gave me oil temps of 215F. The A/C compressor activates the driver's side radiator fan...with the A/C off, only the passenger side fan is normally running. When I turned off the A/C (and the driver's side fan shut down), the engine temps climbed 15F to 230F. Vented hood and better fans = win |

good stuff RCZ, i hope to have this kit within the next 6 months.

Thanks Nitex
Spearfish, I've been thinking about a hood and painting all of it. I think I want to do some testing though. I'm gonna borrow a heat sensor to see how each change I make affects engine bay temps. I'm thinking the following: - Jet hot coating intake charge pipe - CryO2 Intercooler Sprayer for Heat exchanger / oil cooler - Reflective gold foil on manifold / Water reservoir - Heat shielding to isolate headers - Oil cooler Fan - Vented hood |
I assume you are going to run the heat sensor before doing anything?
Something else that might be a good idea is to see how the air is flowing off the engine. Using the Mustang as an example the front of the hood is a large area of where the air dumps out, hence why the GT500 and such put the vent there. |

how about removing some of the plastic shroud that connects the hood and the winshield? mine is completely removed, as is the wiper assembly, and I suspect it has improved the flow
|
Will try that, I need to get a sensor in there first though. Any foreseeable downsides to taking those sealing pieces out?
What do you guys think the max engine bay temp is? |

Do you guys think we exceed 158F (70C) inside the engine bay?

Here's my guess. Engine bay temp is within 20F of your oil temp at any given oil temperature. Also, assuming the engine bay temp would never be above oil temp. Hell, I'll go test this with my wireless grill thermometer later tonight. |
Im looking for a thermometer, that's why I ask. Let me know if your wireless grill one works...
|
ya the temps get pretty hot in therre. i am thinking it is time for a vented hood
|
I should have some numbers after my drive in the morning.

No reason it wouldn't work fine near the engine, it's sensitive. Always pins ambient air temps too.. |
^^^ ya his HP numbers are great but interesting to see a lower TQ number then i got. Now could I take RCZ from a dig with only 6 PSI of boost. ahahahahahahahaha

My grill thermometer may have just been retasked completely. Why buy a scan gauge to monitor intake temps? I'll just duct tape the probe and transmitter to the intake, then tape the receiver/display to my dash. LOL! As for the dyno chart....that torque curve is as flat as my old girlfriend's... |
Works great in the oven.. can't imagine a hot engine bay would be any different.
Ok spearfish.. get a cassarole together, throw it on the engine, hook your themometer up and get to driving already! two birds with one stone! |

wondering how it went.

haha, ok. I'm gonna pick one up soon too. There's no reason why it shouldnt work.

you really cant compare without getting on the same dyno....but if your car were much lighter than his and you had a really good launch it would be possible to beat him even with less power... ;):driving: |
Engine bay temp update.
So there's nothing quick about trying to test these engine bay temps. I did a reading after a 2hr drive in 90F weather (parked the car in my garage). I placed the temp probe on top of the cam cover which seemed like a logical place for relative engine bay temps. With the A/C off and oil temps of ~215F, the probe read 171F. I switched the AC back on (and accessory radiator fan activated) and the temp slowly started to tick back down...however it was a slow process and I lost interest after about 5 minutes at 168F. I'll do it again when I have more time to see where it settles out. |
Thanks Spear, I'm interested to see how mine are with the SC. Probably a good bit higher than your 170F. I was hoping to get real time driving temps since that's what really matters.
