MAZOC fans, as the snow threatens to make winter a cold reality, its time to once again start thinking and planning for ZDayZ 2015!! Each year ZDayZ grows larger as the Z Nation of enthusiasts throughout the country and beyond become aware of this awesome event which takes place in one of the most scenic areas of the Great Smoky Mountains. The highlight of ZDayZ is the opportunity to drive your Z on the most famous or infamous stretch of roadway in the nation..the tail of the dragon.

So, start getting excited about this coming May and plan to join the thousands of Z owners who have conquered the Dragon and enjoyed meeting and celebrating the Z for what it is...a drivers sports car. The MAZOC group typically caravans down a few days early. Several of us are actually departing on the Sunday prior to enjoy a few extra days of the Great Smoky Mountains and the Dragon a little early.

Why ZDayZ?

First: The Tail of the Dragon. One of the most exciting and fun roads in the country to drive. Consisting of 318 S-turns in 11 miles, you will be subjected to various turns and elevations changes all combined at some extremely off kilter moments to test your driving skills. When you complete your first run on the Dragon you will know just what makes the Z worth every penny you spent to own it.

Second: ZDayZ, the event. Take hundreds of Nissan Z, G and GTR enthusiasts from all over the country and bring them together in the Great Smoky Mountains and you have the recipe for lots of fun! ZDayZ offers a variety of things to do both on and off the road. You'll likely make lasting friendships with fellow Z enthusiasts from all over.

There will likely be a separate thread for MAZOC fans to sign up for a caravan down in the coming months. In the mean time start making your plans (requesting vacation time, reserving your room or cabin, etc.). FIRST TIME DRIVING THE DRAGON? ORIENTATION & SAFETY TIPS

I posted this last year and it seemed to help folks who had never been before to mentally prep for the Dragon. Again, the video was produced by the Minis on the Dragon group and I linked to their youtube video.

You two coming down early or not? Pat and I were just down there the day after Xmas with some friends. They made reservations at the Fontana lodge Sunday through Wednesday before ZDayZ. We'll be headed down again on Sunday before so we can explore the area. The Harrah's Cherokee casino in Cherokee is nice with a Ruths Chris and Johnny Rockets if I recall correctly. There is Fontana Lake of course which I believe you can rent boats. Sylva has the German Beer, Microbrewery, Sylva, North Carolina Brewery German Brewery where Dieter brews up some great beers, plus Innovation Brewing—Sylva NC Brewery Innovation Brewing.

In Bryson City you have the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad where you can spend day traveling on the train up to the Olympic Kayak training center and see the area unlike any other way. Bryson City also has the Nantahala Brewery, a sports bar/pub, Italian restaurant, train museum, souvenier shopping, etc.

Anyhow, several things to do there in the area.

Looks like this might be the first year I can make it. Want to wait till I find out how much my tax returns will be before I can really commit to it financially though. I will probably need to find someone to share a room with though. If I do make it, it will probably be for the whole week with the MAZOC crew.

Having finals during ZDayZ every year, new job in 2013, and then buying a house this year. I'm just glad my finals for grad school end the week before ZDayZ in 2015. :icon17:

This will be my 6th. Since I sold the Z, I'll be driving the Jeep down. I'll be coming down early, just not sure how early...

Let me see if I can hook up with Tony to share a room or cabin if we lucky. I know they get book early last year. I missed last year because my daughter's H.S graduation. I can make it this yr, just waiting on Tony and lodging....??????

The FitzGerald's are in for sure - AND we're taking the boat this year, so will be doing some fishing on Lake Fontana this year too!

Since I'll be pulling the boat with the truck this year, I'll go ahead and volunteer for "tail end Charlie" duties for the group doing the Sunday convoy down.

Looks like I'll be picking up a NC freshwater license. :rofl2:
