m4a1mustang 06-16-2014 11:22 PM

What could go wrong? I'm a definite maybe. :p

dmhenderson 06-17-2014 05:49 AM

I'll be there. Also that's pretty close to me so I will be there at 8am to reserve a spot.
I'll bring some sort of grilling meat.

So Wegmans has a pretty insane butcher/seafood counter. Last week I was there they had entire shishkebabs, dry aged NY strip steaks and uncooked "old bay/parmesan/garlic" shrimp so I'm pretty confident I can find something we can eat.

MightyBobo 06-17-2014 06:49 AM

Planning on being there. Not sure what I'll bring yet.

i'm a maybe. the location just makes this hard for me. typically when i go to the BBQ/meets down there i go for a weekend and stay with my family in alexandria. this location is like 2/3 of the way between me and there.

first step is to see what my schedule is like a little closer to the event.

I'm pretty sure the event is closer to PA than it is to everyone else here. It's just a hop down 270 to 495 to get to Alexandria.

yea good point. i gotta check and see if i'm able to in general first lol

Z Stig 06-17-2014 11:41 AM

I have penciled in the date on my calendar. I do have some unscheduled work travel that pops up every now and then with around 2-3 notice, so unless something like that happens, I should be available. I will also volunteer to help reserve the space. Thanks for reviving this!

aniceh 06-17-2014 12:34 PM

I'll be there, and I'll plan on bringing some salmon for the grill

If you've got a seasoning blend you'd like to use, by all means bring it. I figure I'll portion it ahead of time, so individual pieces can be seasoned (or not) as desired.

dmhenderson 06-17-2014 03:23 PM

Salmon owns. One of the few things I can eat right now.

eastwest2300 06-17-2014 06:30 PM

Im in Blades, it'll be good seeing you bro. I'll bring some chicken.

b1adesofcha0s 06-17-2014 06:36 PM

m4a1mustang 06-17-2014 06:40 PM

Add Kim, she is off. We're thinking a side dish right now... Probably a potato salad.

You won't hit 495 and neither will Frank. The park is right off of route 15 north of Frederick. Should be a super easy drive.

dmhenderson 06-18-2014 09:37 AM

Folks it looks like we can reserve a picnic area ahead of time and for an additional $35, we can get an alcohol permit as well.

Edit: There seems to be some confusion on their Yelp page as to whether alcohol and dogs are allowed or not. I'm going to call them and find out what the rules are.

What's the cost to reserve the pavilion?

Never mind, looks like it's already booked.

RandyD 06-18-2014 11:06 AM

i will be driving the Z somewhere near Mt Rushmore at this time.. sorry to miss it.

Cristobal09 06-18-2014 11:13 AM

Hopefully this works out for you Shahid. Ill be in Chincoteague that weekend so unfortunately ill be missing it as well.

dmhenderson 06-18-2014 11:55 AM

The pavillion is already rented and it'd be cost-prohibitive anyway. We just want a laid-back bbq.

The good news:
-We don't have to rent a picnic spot.
-$5 admission for in-state residents, $7 for Presto and Chris
-Lots of room (tons). There are trails, fields a lake to swim in (with lifeguards) and even a little waterfall if you want to hike a bit.

The bad news:
-No alcohol and apparently they're pretty strict about it. It's a $55 fine if you get caught. You can only buy an alcohol permit if you rent the pavillion or a cabin.

-No dogs memorial day to labor day even though that directly contradicts what their website says.

MightyBobo 06-18-2014 12:03 PM

Don't need alcohol to have fun :-p

We'll be fine without the booze, but I'm bummed about the dogs. :(

m4a1mustang 06-18-2014 12:35 PM

No dogs... Might be a no go if that's the case.

dmhenderson 06-18-2014 12:59 PM

Potential solution. There's another state park in Thurmont (Cacoctin Mountain Park) that does allow dogs.

Pros:
-Dogs allowed
-Much less crowded
-Picnic area with grills available
-It's free! No entrance or parking fees.
-Less pushy/annoying. Lots of yelp reviews of the other park mention that park rangers are constantly bothering you if you look like "damn kids" or whatever.

Cons:
-Wooded area. No open fields that I can see. Not necessarily a bad thing. Still plenty of room for cornhole/frisbee/whatever.
-Still no booze.
-No swimming

Let me know what you think. Just a suggestion.

m4a1mustang 06-18-2014 01:01 PM

I'm down for whatever. Cacoctin looks nice as well.

Ditto

dmhenderson 06-18-2014 01:25 PM

Shahid, you ok with us switching parks? I'll still drive ahead and secure a picnic spot only I'll bring Frank with me. If so, could you change the park and address in the OP?

dmhenderson 06-18-2014 01:27 PM

Also a wooded area in August might not be such a bad thing.

Agreed.

Kirkster 06-18-2014 01:43 PM

Tentatively in...

GM_Traitor3.5 06-18-2014 02:23 PM

I'm in as of now... if it's cloudy with a chance of grilled meat, I'm there.
