There's also the option of doing a hyperdrive for $50. It's just one 25 min session on the track on the same day as an HPDE event. Whichever works best for you, both are good options. I did an AutoX, then a hyperdrive, and now an HPDE. Each one was progressively more fun than the last.

AutoX is a good learning tool, but I hated that you had to wait there all freaking day for like 4 mins total of driving time spread throughout the day. Once I had my first track experience, I stopped caring about AutoX

I'm not saying you should live or die by AutoX, but it's a good place to REALLY get to toss a car around relatively safely. HPDE is superior overall I believe, but both have their benefits.

Yeah that's true, I was just sharing my experience with AutoX. It's much easier since you don't have to drive all the way to freaking WV.

At this stage of the game I will concede that I have EVERYTHING to learn, and can't afford to rule out any source of knowledge or experience.

I didn't learn to drive from AutoX or HPDE, and at my first HPDE, I was quite fast.

I learned an awful lot from video games and hooligan friends and having been taught well from the beginning. Not saying that I advise hooliganism.

PC sim racing and hooliganism is how I learned. I actually have an interesting theory about why I require no steering feedback whatsoever to be fast, but I'll save that for another day.

When you AutoX, is is broken down by driver skill level, or by car modifications?

Cause those could potentially put someone in different levels they may/may not be ready for?

Doesn't really matter. You're pretty much doing the course on your own. Different classes only matter if you're trying to compete.

No, really - when SCCA runs competition AutoX, the modifications you have would put you in a class SO DIFFICULT, you'd get absolutely wrecked by Miata's running 305's up front and back hahaha.
