I like it. It's pretty intuitive.

Im on the verge of getting an HU. Amazon ALWAYS has close out sales on highend kenwood stuff. You can snag a excelon series for under $500 easy.

It was only $350ish on Amazon Prime. Then another few bucks for the Metra harness and antenna adapter.

m4a1mustang 04-30-2013 09:28 AM

Here it is. Amazon.com: Pioneer AVH-X5500BHS Multimedia DVD Receiver with 7" Motorized Touchscreen Display: Car Electronics

It's a great unit.

eastwest2300 04-30-2013 09:41 AM

Its a good price too.. Im a little hesitant with motorized faceplates though, I had nice Pioneer AVIC-N2 and I got several years out of it, luckily I had a best buy warranty on it, but they had to fix it a few times. So ideally I'd like to stay away from motorized stuff.. Im definitely in the market for a nice headunit.

I don't listen to CDs so I never use the tilt operation.

dmhenderson 04-30-2013 09:44 AM

I have the AVIC-Z140BH and I like it ok. It has some "issues" but nothing major.
The nav system doesn't play nice with docked iphones - Spotify in particular but the nav system itself is the best I have ever used. Only thing it's missing is an internal hard drive but I'm not sure I'd really want to bother with that anyway.

Ahh, thats smart, and in essence, you should never have a problem.

dmhenderson 04-30-2013 09:54 AM

I can count the number of times I have opened the faceplate on my HU on one hand. Once or twice tops, one was set the splash screen and ecodrive settings and again to hack into the bios to retreive my password that I thought I forgot (but apparently just typo'd 3x).

Oh and for the record, those things are easy as hell to break into if you know what to look for. I retreived my "encrypted" password in about 5 minutes

It's the name of the XM radio station. Plays mostly electronic music of various genres.

Ahhhh, I dont have XM, damn... it sounds like an excellent station.

b1adesofcha0s 04-30-2013 10:06 AM

Nice and clean setup Steve. I thought about getting a HU for my Z, but the Bose system was good enough for me. Just got a phone mount for nav purposes instead.

I had 1 year of it but I drove the Z so little (weekends) it just did not make too much sense.

aren't there issues when replacing the bose system? As in its doable but more difficult.

I have heard that the Bose system is very difficult to work on but I wouldn't know. I've only ever worked on a base and a nismo - ostensibly the same thing.

There was that issue too. All I really needed was a mount for my phone when I use google maps on it.

I got a nice mount on amazon for $15 that attached to the windshield. has worked great so far.

b1adesofcha0s 04-30-2013 10:49 AM

I got the pro clip mount from Steve that goes right next to all the heater/ac controls on the passenger side.

Craig we normally just talk about it in this thread but because the AAM Competition open house is this weekend we have no regular meet scheduled.

This normally would be a Fairfax weekend. Next one will be Columbia but since many of us are leaving for ZdayZ on Sunday I'm not sure how many will be there. Same with the meet the following weekend since many will still be out of town.

m4a1mustang 04-30-2013 11:39 AM

So the rest of you know I will be making some changes soon that should help keep our MAZOC stuff more organized and on topic. Still working on the details but I hope to have done news to announce soon.

craig.pulliam 04-30-2013 11:40 AM

Got it. Thanks.

eastwest2300 04-30-2013 11:44 AM

Soo most likely I'll be the only one at the mega meet in glenn burnie...hmmm.

craig.pulliam 04-30-2013 11:46 AM

Not much of a meet, let alone mega...haha
