It's cheaper at lunch. I think around $20 or so per person with a drink.

I remember the one time Steve got me to come to FFX by offering to buy me lunch at Todai. That was my first and only time there. :yum:

Dude FI is so cheap. With me selling all of my stock parts, LTHs, and Ark I will LITERALLY be breaking even cash wise. Its just the whole DIY/Fabrication factor that sucks. Im really surpised there isnt more FI G's/Z's running around. Once im done and can prove my reliablility I will be more than happy to become a vendor on here and hook all of my MD VA buddies up

There is no crappy comment

what's the company down in Florida doing single turbo kits for like $8700 installed and tuned?

haha send your car there DM :p single turbo is always way cheaper, 1 turbo, use of stock manifold, less piping, less lines haha

TT or SC. If I'm gonna do it, I'm gonna do it right.

Truest story ever.

We have a design mocked up to use stock headers for a twin turbo front mount setup. Stock manifolds are pretty but they work and work well.

Everyone argues single vs twin but really if you plan well and do the math a single can get you almost identical spool.

Khoi how is the TT kit coming? Im dying to know how those EFR's spool on our cars. NEED RESULTS BUDDY!! :bowrofl:

Well it's a lot cheaper if you DIY and know what you're doing, which most people don't. Then there's the cost of maintenance and having some money saved up in case you blow something. I've thought about going FI for the Z, but figured I'd rather just buy a faster car. It will be more reliable that way. I've been craving for something with 8+ cylinders :yum:

You're a goddamned mechanical wizard though and you do most of your own work. Not sure that's a fair comparison.

I talked to AAM long ago about doing it right on my Z. I wanted everything from the Defi setup to every supporting mod I needed for the car to handle the power reliably and drive perfectly. Was looking around $18k parts and labor for a custom TT setup.

Like I said, I am most definitely not a mechanic but the PM part of me desperately wants to be involved in the development process.

Yes that's because AAM works on GT-Rs and you will pay GT-R prices for that level of service. Feel free to prove me wrong though haha.

(no offense intended of course)

The motor is pulled and we mocked up the manifold and turbos, right now our engineer is drawing up the fmic and i/c pipes

I'd like for us to be able to test fit everything on our 370z here, do the power testing and what not, but end up "sponsoring" a local customer with the full kit if they plan on doing shows and what not (DM i know we kind of went over this a bit already with you) since our 370z here is bone stock lol

I think that's pretty close actually, when you are talking bone stock z to a complete TT kit, installed, tuned (we're talking gauges, exhaust, complete fuel system etc) Installation of a lot of the parts take a good chunk of time..

our hourly book rate is higher than your average mom and pop shop due to this huge facility, so a lot of times labor at AAM is going to cost a bit more, but when you actually book out a complete TT install, we're looking at over 30+ hours..

Yeah it wasn't bad at all considering what all was being done. And at that point I had seen what you guys did with Lou's Z and was impressed.

But I decided it wasn't worth it for this car. I'd just eventually buy something a little higher up on the totem pole.

Yeah, I'm sure there are a lot that pay that amount and end up  'ing after they realize how much they just spent lol

I wish I was a wizard. Seriously my friend Pat that you met...he has tought me everything I know and is literaly 70% the mastermind behing everything im doing. Luckily we have a pretty good business agreement.

For real though if I did a build Identical to mine(keep in mind I had some luck with cheap parts) It would be maybe 3000-3500 in parts and 1000-1500 in labor. But im also doing alot of pointless crap like prepping for e85 usage so there is a little extra money going into that... ie $900 injectors haha

I would like to finish my build and perfect it before I get anyone else involved.

m4a1mustang 02-28-2013 10:17 AM

And lets face it, if you want to do a proper TT setup on the Z, you NEED gauges, clutch upgrade, FI optimized exhaust, etc.

The stock suspension could use some work too.

If I was really in love with the Z and had the cash to blow it would probably be worth it, but when you start to think about it you can just get into a (no offense) better car and get that performance straight from the factory for around the same total cost. To each his own, though.
