When I get a bike I will be FAGATT.

Fabulously All Gear All The Time.

I would like a bike... but not in this area. This would be a good replacement...

ZCarMan 04-26-2013 09:13 AM

the only problem in one of those is you'd be hit with every type of flying debris known and unknown to mankind. I spoke to an Aerial Atom owner at Katie's Coffee meet. He had the windscreen as well and said you absolutely must have the helmet with full faceshield and then you still catch stuff coming up into your face/body as was the case on I-495. He said, semi trucks were very bad. That would just suck. But it would be hell of a lot of fun to have for the track!

Its even more pronounced due to your face being much lower to the ground. The windscreen and side panels do help a lot though. Here is one with them installed:

Last year I had floated the idea of a group of us headed to VIR to either track our cars or to drive the Atom. Not necessarily cheap but its the only Aerial Atom package available in the country and its near us. They offer a half day and a full day track package:

Half-Day Level 1 $525/Person

Three 15 minute session on the VIR Patriot Course
Introductory Classroom Session on Performance Driving and Safety
Well Planned Lead/Follow Sessions behind an Ariel Atom Pace car

Full-Day Level 2 $1695/Person

Four 20 minute sessions on the VIR South Course
Two 30 Minute Advanced Classroom Sessions on High Performance Driving, Advanced Car Control and Safety
Afternoon Sessions are Open Controlled Lapping with no Pace Car
One-on-One instructor briefing

That price is really not that bad... I wonder if Caterham 7s would be cheaper. I know they ran a whole series with them...

Doh. I just realized that would be with our own cars...

m4a1mustang 04-26-2013 09:35 AM

:iagree: that's not bad at all. Especially the half-day package.

Yes, I think it is an excellent deal to be able to drive the Atom at VIR. Once we do the Karting event I can always look into it further to gauge the interest level of the MAZOC group.

I will say I probably won't be able to do it this year. I have too much going on (and going out... of my bank account) :icon17:

Well when they moved out the new neighbors moved the fridge out on to the driveway. Then moved it back into the house a few days later. A few days later they moved the fridge back out on the driveway and hosed it out with some chemicals twice a day for two days strait. Then that fridge got moved back into the house. Two days later that fridge was laying on its side near the curb. It looked like someone went mid evil on its a$$.

I guess the new people did not like that style of fridge...

Or there is nothing that gets kimchi smell out of refrigerator plastic...

Not that I don't love me some cucumber kimchi

:tiphat: I may be older, but I do like Sci-Fi. I just finished watching all of the "Fringed" series on Amazon too. When you have a lot of spare time on your hands, you can catch up on stuff like that.

Really, Chris? It's perfectly legal in standstill traffic, in California.

Also, you'd be charged with murder.

With cost as such as it is, we can always gauge interest and then if there is enough, we can plan for a later time to allow folks to put some fundage aside for it.

This suggestion I found on the interwebs:

To get rid of the smell of kimchee, first you must do 2 things..............

First. get several pitcher and fill it with lemonade...Get rid of contents of fridge

Second. place pitchers into (inside) the fridge and let the lemonade soak up the fumes

One week later. Take out the pitchers of lemonade, Place some baking soda inside fridge.

Let baking soda, "engulf" the odors..

One week later, remove the "baking soda" and repeat this process for 35 years...:bowrofl:

I don't get what the problem is with laning.

Its the bike to the front and traffic moving faster. If they're at the front they easily out accel most cars and will be on their way without slowing anyone down. If anything for every bike that does it, it takes a full spot out of the line of traffic, making traffic lines shorter and more efficient?

I don't get mad at all when I see it.

If it's legal, I don't mind it. If it's illegal, I do. Simple as that.

At least in California it's part of the norm, so drivers know bikes might be splitting lanes in traffic.

Here in NOVA it's just flat out dangerous.

Even in KA people still don't look for motorcycles. My buddy got run of the road and he was not even lane splitting...

I wish it was legal in MD but then again people here really can't drive...

That's really unfortunate. Its not that bad up here just because people look for it I guess. I know I do just because I don't really mind it. Some people here get really butt hurt that their cars cant do the same thing and try and block them and other stuff though.

Is it legal in PA?

K

Update...

Lane Splitting
Not authorized; PA Vehicle Code 3523 (b),(c)

It annoys me for two reasons, one being i dont want someone hitting my car, and there have been some close calls. I dont trust peoples driving skills in cars around DC as it is, so theres no way I will trust some guy to split down the middle of a lane on their bike. Second being its illegal, and I dont look for it... nor should I have to. The lane is for my vehicle, I dont share it with anyone.

Since the weather has gotten nice, I have seen multiple people doing this, many of which do it at an unsafe speed.

I understand people being defensive of the "common" motorist who may not pay attention to the average person on their bike... but like everything else... many people around here drive like crap, they then get on their bike, and continue driving like crap.

it's actually surprising how few people in LA understand that it's legal. You still see people opening their car doors and parking across lanes to prevent it.

Splitting lanes in VA is suicide. I've seen all sorts of bad things happen to people that tried it

Oh well I really do not care.

All of the close calls I have seen in my short 3 years of driving were either a car driver trying to screw over the biker or the car driver being oblivious and entering the bikers lane.

Whenever I am in Maryland I always see those groups of sport bikers that do wheelies and crap down 495. Big packs of them. Squids.
