Guns would go in the trunk and I would keep the ammo locked in a metal ammo can in the passenger compartment. Federal Law affords us some protections regarding transporting legally owned firearms across state lines. Just make sure you do your research on individual state laws (for your destination state and all of the states you will be passing through) to make sure you are covered.
