please understand that I'm scheduled for an Intro class on Oct 16, and I haven't shot anything yet; but Beretta, Glock, and Sig are at the top of my list.
Unfortunately, I was looking around last night and discovered that Remington has some pretty good rebates going on right now ($150 gift card) on rifles with scopes. A Remington 700 CDL is pretty high on my list. Might start with the rifle and then apply the gift card against the pistol. Or not.

Oh, the Nation's Gun Show is in town next weekend on the 7th, 8th, and 9th. I will be there first thing Saturday morning. Sometimes you can get good deals on ammo there.

I dont know man, I mean I've been in DC for almost 2 years, and I guess I've been lucky soo far, but I havent seen anything THAT bad yet.

I finally got my Tactical light and mount, but unfortunately the light doesnt fit the mount, so I'll have to do some sorta fabrication to make it work. All in all, the AR is coming along quite nicely.

I got my shipment of PMC XTAC XP193 in from PSA per Mac's recommendation. Looks very nice. I like highly polished brass.

What light and what mount? Light too big, or too small to fit the mount?

You can still get Surefire G2's (65 lumens) for around $55 or the G2 LED version (80 lumens) for around $80 or less. The Surefire G2X in nitrolon puts out 200 lumens and those are $95, but the G2's are arguably a little more durable supposedly due to construction of the tailcap switch circuit board. A reasonably good alternative is the Streamlight Polytac (130 lumens) for around $35. The Polytac actually seems to have better dispersion, and although it's reputed to not be quite as durable as the Surefire G2 or G2X, I know guys that have been running them on ARs for thousands of rounds and I've not personally seen one fail. IIRC, the Polytac and the G2's are the same diameter body and fit the same mounts (1 inch). If they're too small, I have used a layer of a cut-up innertube as a shim, or if that's too thick, a cut-up ranger band.

I have always preferred mounting lights at the 10 o'clock position with tailcap switches so I can activate them with my support-hand thumb. I don't like grip strip switches (too cumbersome and tangly and the cheaper ones are definitely failure-prone) and have always preferred quick detach mounts because I prefer to run my rifles without a light and attach it only if needed (permanent mount interferes with my preferred support-hand grip). An acceptable-quality QD mount is one of the polymer styles from CAA, although my preference has been for the lever-detach models such as the VLTOR.

BTW, be careful about the CR123 batteries for some of these lights (and some optics). Sanyo is a readily-available battery, but the Sanyos that are made in China have a tendency to explode. I mean, literally explode. By reputation, the ones that are safest and most reliable are the Surefire-labeled ones (available on their website). Moral of the story, lithium is nasty stuff. When you're using lithium batteries, especially in a physically abusive environment, use good ones.

Also by reputation (and personal experience), if your light or optic uses AA batteries, Energizer alkaline batteries have a tendency to leak when subjected to repeated recoil. The Industrial (black) versions seem to be more prone to this for some reason.

I bought the Off Set Tactical Mount from Lumen Tactical, and the light is a Nedbo Redline. (Which I found as descent, being that is was 220 lumens)

I have a Surefire G2 that I bought for about $45. Love it. Very durable and bright. Will probably get some more.
