Interesting product. Thank god all the camera's in my town is for "traffic watch" only. Bigger question - "are these legal?" There are many products out there like laser jammer etc but using them knowingly on your car on the streets (especially in NJ or VA) will land you in jail ( I think?). Also, I question the quickness of this unit since didn't topgear proved that you must be driving at least 170 MPH to avoid the camera meaning these are super super quick cameras? As these license plate electronics gets updated and modernized, don't you think the camera's are getting quicker and smarter as well?

Years ago, I used slave flashes in a photo studio setting that were triggered by the main flash popping off. Each slave flash had a little light sensor that detected the main flash firing. So, I believe after more than a decade later, this kind of technology has improved and it's not a stretch to imagine a couple slave flashes built into a license plate frame. I'm all for countermeasures.
The way it always works is that some device i.e. red light camera, is promoted to the tax payers as a boon for "public safety" but in the backroom deals with city council members, it's a different language such as "low capital investment" and "guaranteed revenue stream." With a few sleazy tweaks of the system such as shortening the yellow-light duration or nailing people who stop and then turn right at a light, pretty soon everyone is a felon behind the wheel. The camera company gets rich, the city gets addicted to the money (especially the city council dirtbags who accepted bribes), insurance companies cash in on raising premiums and the whole cottage industry of remedial driving schools and traffic lawyers get a piece of the action as well. Anyone who opposes radar or red light cameras is stigmatized as an irresponsible scofflaw who only wants to speed and run red lights. Lies, oops I meant "statistics", are plotted to show how much safe an intersection is now that everyone is being brow beaten. So word to the wise: whenever you hear "public safety" just replace those words with "easy money" to understand the real intentions. Last edited by MX52Z; 12-26-2012 at 08:10 AM. |

heres an interesting read, and a possible way to get out of your red-light camera ticket. Photo Radar Scam - Malfunctions of Photo Enforcement Radar and Red Light Cameras
This is something I have been hearing alot about recently.

'Stale green'. That's what I was taught as the term for a green that has been that way over 30secs. Based from my speed, I would hover the brake in the event it would go amber, up to the point I couldn't safely bring the car to a stop. I cannot recall the last time I blew a red, and I spend 3 hours a day driving from south of CLT through downtown to halfway to Mooresville. It's been years, no joking.
I hate to nanny, but our cars weigh almost 4,000 pounds. There's no excuse for running a red. Wrecks rarely happen due to mechanical error and mostly occur because of driver err. I would guess many happen when a driver 'thinks' nobody is where they intend to drive. Similar to thinking ,"I dont see anyone, running the red is harmless". I hate red-light cameras, but 'cheating' them to avoid punishment for poor driving behaviors is not the way to go, IMO.

![]() THIS is a more acceptable application. I'd hate to wear the dang thing down going through a tunnel in VA or TN/NC though....(you know if you've been through them). Although I have a old $1.99 Autozone metal custom plate I cut the tops of the screws holes out of (and a little wide to make the slide) and slide into my plate frame to accomplish the same. You could also get a 3M privacy screen and cut to your plate's size and insert into plate frame. That is if you're interested in flinging around about ~3,400 pounds of metal illegally.....just sayin.

Just go out at night and remove all the stop lights in town and keep the Z. It's worth it.
