There are better/newer rifles in the Russian inventory. Either Russia's inventories are greatly exaggerated or have been sold off to other countries. Or Russia is sending the "cannon fodder" in to soften up Ukraine before the real soldiers are sent in. Or the Russia military leadership sucks.

Was thinking about this last night in bed. Putin sent in the under trained, poor equipped troops thinking this would be easy. Holding his good stuff back just in case things go sideways and NATO gets involved. We are almost there.

My other thought.
The other thing is that there is so much corruption in the Russian military. Billions have been skimmed off the top and middle that there is very little left. When you have troops eating MRI's that are 7 yrs expired, Chinese tires on APC's that are dry rotted and blowing out. The top brass used smoke and mirrors to fool everyone. Now they are exposed. Putin used the Nuke and chemical threats because he realized he knows he can't win a conventional war now with NATO. I bet before long. Putin will thin his staff of advisers out. either through forced retirements or most likely accidentally falling from a great height. He already has 2 advisers under house arrest. The Chechen troops that Putin sent in were better equipped then the Russian troops. Now he is recruiting troops from Syria. Asking China for military help too.
