You have no idea. I was relatively normal for a Nuke. We were definitely in our own little world. Got medically de-nuked near the end of time and had one hell of a culture shock having to suddenly be a regular sailor. As an E-5 in the regular Navy I was supposed to be qualified on all sorts of things and have all sorts of knowledge and experience. I got my butt chewed sooo many times by my Chiefs because of this. Fortunately once they figured out/remembered that I was an ex-nuke they were much more understanding and helped me a lot. I was very appreciative of that.

All Navy Nukes say that they're normal. What's normal for them, is abnormal for everyone else.

Favorite? Would have to say the stuff that you never seen or even heard of. The cutting edge stuff that didn't make it. They been pissing around with a replacement for the .556 since the early 70's. The one 6.5mm was interesting. The frame work was a cross between an AR16~AR10. It was inbetween the 2. Had an electronic trigger. No hammer and firing pin. Squeegeed the trigger, and a voltage went to the rear of the casing. Then it went BOOM. So much for that rifle. Next...... This was one of the first caseless rounds. It basically got shot down because it had to use a battery to fire the round. And battery life was questionable at that time. It had better ballistics than the 7.62.

Hey, I did say “relatively” normal.
Definitely acknowledge that Nukes are not normal especially us ETs.
The ones that don’t realize it are the most abnormal.

At least I didn’t get chased through the woods by base security around Nuke School because I was hacking at a tree with a broad sword in full medieval garb.

No doubts that you got to play with some interesting things.
I vaguely remember hearing about the electronic fired cartridges at some point. Something similar to the HK G11?

Remington had a short run of electronic trigger rifles. It never caught on.
