I didn't grow up with revolvers but I did shoot a few before I was old enough to buy my own. My .357 Mag Taurus 608 was my first revolver, third pistol overall. A Ruger Red Hawk Hunter in .44 Mag was next. My Ruger Bisley Black Hawk in 45 ACP/45 Colt is my only other revolver. Looking to get more. A 22lr revolver probably will be next.

For S&Gs I've been working on shooting and reloading my Black Hawk quickly so I can open carry it. The thought how butt hurt some tactical elitist would get about that makes me chuckle.

I've got a RedHawk in 41 Mag, I love that gun. I sold my Security Six (dumb thing to do, but needed the $$), I've got a couple of 4" Stainless Security Sixes, had a Model 10 Smith heavy barrel I sold (got it in trade for a 69 Camaro. That Camaro was rough), and found a Ruger 3 screw Blackhawk that is has not been changed to a transfer bar system. It was in pieces, but everything was there. I had a gunsmith assemble it and verify that it shot properly. The bluing is worn but he said it would be worth more as is.

I've only sold one gun ever and that was a first gen Walther P99 with a OD green frame. Wished I had held on to that one.

That 3 screw BlackHawk was a nice find. Definitely something to hold onto and not mess with. When I was looking for a BlackHawk I read up on all that. I probably buy another SA revolver at some point. Most likely another Ruger Bisley. I really like how the Ruger Bisley grip feels and looks.

The Bisley grip is similar to the Colt SAA grips, same principle. If only the SAA's weren't so damn expensive.... The difference in price between the SAA and the Bisley makes the Bisley attractive.

I thought the current Ruger BlackHawk grips (and frames) were bigger in general than a Colt SAA. The Super and Bisley BlackHawk being even bigger. It was also my understanding that the current Ruger Vaquero was the closest in size to a Colt SAA.

Before I bought my Bisley I went to a couple of gun shows and tried the grips of every single action I could find. The Ruger Bisley definitely felt bigger and my pinky finger didn't feel like it was falling of the end of the grip.

I don't know about the current ones, I just remember when the Bisley first came out, the grips felt the same to me as the SAA. Maybe Ruger has made them a little larger over the years. Who knows. I liked the way the revolver rotated up in my hand, making it a lot easier to thumb the hammer back. I didn't have to shuffle my grip like on some other revolvers.

Like you I like how it is easier to thumb back the hammer on the Bisleys. Especially when shooting one handed. Part of it has to do with the "Bisley" hammer that come with the Bisley models. Also felt recoil feels less with Bisleys IMO.

I guess we were both wrong. GunBlast has a whole article devoted to Ruger SA revolver frames/grips.

GunBlast.com Ruger SA GripFrames

Ruger's XR3 grip frame is the same size as the Colt SAA.
