The choice of RDS vs magnified scope is a matter of application. You can use an RDS to shoot 100 yards and beyond, and you can use a 4x scope to shoot 25 yards and less, but that's not the best use of those particular optics. In selecting an optic, just like any other aspect of your rifle, you need to first define what you're going to use the gun for.
