It's hard to tell from the pics, but it looks like it may be left over 'bluing' salts. I usually use a brush (nylon not a metal one) and cleaning solvent to get it off, then I usually go over the metal parts with Clenzoil. If it is, and you don't clean it off, it could corrode your parts. Most of the time when I get new parts, especially for the AR, I clean them really well before I put them on. But again, if you are unsure, take it to your local Firearms shop or give POF a call.

Anyone know how to sight an ar?

Like Semtex and others have said if your adding a scope or red dot of some type it should be self explanatory. However, for Iron sights your going to need a front Iron sight key (optics planet has a few). If it is a troy battle sight ur gonna need to modify the front sight key.

The best way to sight the sights in is to start at 50 or 100yd (Id recommend 100yd).
1) Flip your sights up make sure your rear windage sights are centered.
2) Make sure the sights are tightly fastened to the rail (they due tend to come loose over time)
3) Use a Bipod or bench rest and get centered on your target at 100yds.
4) squeeze off a round (note. if you have poor trigger control you will be all over the place and wont be able to get a consistent zero)
5) Ok you now know where your first Point of Impact is. if its low then adjust your front sight one to two clicks lower. If high then raise it the same.
6) Remember you want to basically walk your shots to the bulls eye so little changes will give you a consistent movement across the target and you wont get lost.
7) If the POI is right then you must adjust the rear windage sight to the left to pull your shot back into the target.

The rest is up to you. Be safe and have fun with the POF you will enjoy it! I am hitting less than 1.5 MOA out to 700yds with my POF 6.8 16"...

Trust me you will love the gun ;):happydance:

great! i am beginning to be convinced to buy one for protection..

Interesting. It seems most of the blogs that i looked through was from gun friendly states. I see a lot of florida. What is up with florida? I hear a lot of interesting crimes that happens down there. Probably too much radiation. :happydance:

tvfreakazoid 08-27-2009 01:37 PM

Nope not sure. I will try to find someone to help me out.

I will give a try. Just need to find a area in Sactown, CA to shoot that far. I'm looking to get a MI iron sight then eventually a scope. They are so expensive. I may just a cheap one.

Yes, they are expensive. I can't disagree with you there. If you do decide to go that route, I recommend taking a look at laruetactical.com -- they have lots of optic/mount combos.

Hey Semtex I applaud you for your knowledge in firearms.

Would you be able to help me find any info on my SKS? Its a Norinco. I've found similar ones on gunbroker, but never the exact model.

semtex 08-27-2009 02:00 PM

What kind of info are you looking for?

Well just anything and everything.

I know it fires a 7.62, I know its a blast to take out, and thats about it. I have been told, that its a hard to find model, and I had it completely disassembled and cleaned a couple of times, before I knew how to do it myself, and every time I get offers from people to purchase it. I know its not a big deal having an SKS, but I want to know why people might be so interested in it.

semtex 08-27-2009 02:24 PM

I'm no expert on SKS rifles, but I believe your Norinco has several things going for it. First, it's reputed to be one of the best quality SKS's. Secondly, they ceased being imported as a result of the assault weapons ban. And that dovetails into the third thing, which is that it's a sought-after collectible due to its rarity. It's the same situation as the HK 94, for example. Those things will fetch $4-5k easily, if you can find them.

Edit: Btw, it is a big deal to have one of these because of their rarity, which is why you keep getting offers. I'd hang onto it if I were you. I have a friend whose father in law has a small stash of these in his safe for future trading.

Is that picture okay to have posted up? I didn't know if it was an issue having the clip in.

bullitt5897 08-27-2009 02:29 PM

alot of people are interested because of its rarity or the wow factor that you own an SKS. Personally I prefer a custom build AR-10 but thats just me i like my stuff custom and top of the line! In all reality its probably the wow factor or collector item appeal. SKS's are great guns hold onto it and enjoy!

I know when I first got my POF 6.8SPC I had offers of $6k for the gun and I was like HELL NO! its a 3yr waiting list buddy! I dont want to wait that long! lol

GL Banning and enjoy the SKS

semtex 08-27-2009 02:30 PM

Why would a picture of a gun with a clip in it be a no-no? If it is a no-no, then I'm in trouble (look at post 30). lol

Hard to say. Probably around $450? I just Googled 'Norinco SKS' and there appear to be quite a few forum threads on the value of this gun. You might want to look through those threads.

semtex 08-27-2009 02:45 PM

Hey I just had an idea. You could take it to Antiques Roadshow. That'd be hilarious, you walking in with an SKS slung around your shoulder wanting an appraisal. I'd pay money to watch that. :roflpuke2:

bullitt5897 08-27-2009 02:46 PM

Actually not to be "one of those guys" but it's not a clip, a clip is what is used to load the magazine. Just a lil bit of info for fun :)

Correct. Like an M1 Garand (the clip gets ejected once the mag is empty).

Damn I was offered $800 a while back. Maybe I should have taken it.

Hmm...bidding starts at $550. I'm thinking my estimate of $450 was on the low side!

Check this out. The FN SCAR is now available with two civilian models. I think I'm going to get the 17S in .308, as I already have a .223 AR.

Funking looking sks. I would hold on to it. I've got one but it's just a regular russian sks 1954. It's original at least. You should go the sks forum:

Damn that long of a wait for the pof??? HOLY SH*T!

I'm curious what is better, the .308 or the 6.8? What are the disadvantage and advantage over the other. The .308 uses the 7.62 ammo right? But the 6.8 suppose to be just as strong as the 7.62. Also, the 5.56 lower rec and the 6.8 lower rec are the same size and you don't have to buy a a whole new lower rec. Other than that I don't know other than the 7.62 being a bigger caliber bullet.

Personally, I prefer the .308 Win (aka 7.62x51). It packs a little more punch at longer ranges than the 6.8SPC, and perhaps more importantly, it's a much more popular cartridge, which means you can always find plentiful ammo in this caliber, and lots and lots of different guns to shoot it in. It's got really great ballistics for a short cartridge which can be used easily in semi-auto designs. You can step up from .308 to bolt-action guns in the magnum calibers for better long range work (like .300WinMag, 7mm Rem Mag, the Ultra versions, and penultimately the .338 Lapua, which is about as badass as you get without going .50BMG), but rifles in those calibers tend to be a whole lot bulkier and heavier - the .308 is a nice practical sweetspot for tactical and hunting use.

6.8SPC is still a bit of a specialty round, and who knows, 10 years from now it may die off in popularity, making ammo or reloading components harder to find.
