That is a great price!!! They are usually like $3k

Check gunbroker.com and find one you like. $1200 is going to get you a mid level AR. POF's, lwrc, noveske will run you $1800+. Bushmasters, colts and Rock river arms will run in your range. I would go with a RRA (rock river arms). U will find some great deals on gun broker and may be able to score a really nice setup for cheap! Post up what ya find ;)

Yeah I've looked at that site and find it horrible to use. I think if you knew exactly what you wanted it would be fine. Have you used gungenie.com?

tvfreakazoid 05-26-2010 02:15 PM

I agree that gunbroker is not very user friendly. They really need to update it.
I've never heard of gungenie. I wonder if it's better than gunbroker.

I've read those FN rifles are crazy expensive (6 to 7k). I read that in ar15.com. Personally it's not worth it and why do people buy it. But if they can afford it i guess why not.

I was curious to know. As some of you guys know I own a POF upper. Because POF is a small company and they have proprietary parts (one of the down falls of owning a Piston AR. They should just all make it none proprietary. Hopefully one day when the military adopts it fully. I've read it in a guns and ammo mag that it will be in the next couple of years or so), what happens if the company goes out of business? If something should happen to the gas plug and op rod or the barrel where would I be able to get spare parts?
I guess that means i would be **** out of luck. Hopefully it won't happen. But you never know.

semtex 05-31-2010 07:24 AM

The FN SCAR 556 is only like $1900 at my local shop.

6 position stock
Surefire M81 quadrail (mid-length)
Removable tactical carry handle/iron sight

Less than 500 rounds through the rifle.

I own a Yugoslavian SKS, a Mauser Kar98k from WW2, and a Walther P.38 also from WW2 with all matching numbers that a veteran brought back. I'll get pictures one day. $500 worth of ammo that I haven't touched either :stirthepot:

I didn't buy it yet, I was seeing what kind of deal it was for those in the know. It seems like since the run on ARs is over for now there are a lot of good deals to be had, better than this one I think.

you can get some new for less
Stag Arms

but I guess if the RRA is local, it would be easier, no need to pay a fee for your local FFL.

Daniel Defense is building some pretty good rifles... probably a better choice than the RRA. ;)

Thanks fellas, now that Obama mania has subsided there are some pretty damn good deals on ARs out there.

semtex 06-03-2010 02:59 PM

Nice choice, Tin! Daniel Defense is leaps and bounds better than RRA (at least by reputation).

Yeah after spending a ridiculous amount of time on gun message boards that's what I discovered too. It will be here on Monday, I'll post up some pics then. After that I need to learn how to use it! :ugh2:

tvfreakazoid 06-04-2010 04:18 AM

Take some good pics.
When I got my first AR and didn't know anything about them, I spent a great deal of a time on message boards my self. It was a pain in the azzs.

So, i'm looking to get an ar style .22lr. So far i'm leaning toward the S&W. I've heard that it's better than the colt and a good price. It has a match grade barrel and what not. Plus it's a good deal compared to other AR style .22lr.
From what i read that the S&W has good quality for the price. Plus i don't need to spend a whole lot of money for a plinker. I've already spent a whole crap load on my regular AR.
Also what are you thoughts on the ruger?
Just wondering if any of you guys have or had any experiences with some AR style .22lr. What are you thoughts and suggestions.

22lr plinkers

bullitt5897 06-18-2010 09:21 AM

I am curious... whats the point of getting a .22lr besides the "its fun factor" and "i want a cheap gun to go plinking with" in all honesty I find it harder to shoot small arms and then upgrade to larger calibers. for instance I shot my 6.8spc and then shot Ben's 5.56 AR and I felt like I was shooting a .22lr. The other weekend I shot the 300 Win Mag and then Jumped on my 6.8spc with an acog and was able to watch the bullet flight all the way to 600yd targets. I never lost sight of the target when going from a higher caliber to a lower caliber. but when I go from a lower caliber like 5.56 to 6.8 or 6.8 to 300WM I have a hard time keeping scope on target throughmy entire follow through....

any thoughts? My thought is if you practice with higher calibers then what you normally use then when you go back to your daily use weapon you are much more effective of a shooter. Ben has shot my 6.8 and it Kicks for an AR!!! to say that I can keep sight picture at 600yd on that gun is retardedly awesome!

SmoothZ 06-19-2010 08:11 PM

I'm still trying to grasp the concept of why anyone would spend the money to make a .22LR look like an AR. lol

I have a .22LR that I bought from a coworker. I wanted to use it for plinking and maybe someday teach one of my sons some shooting skills. I figure when the zombies take over, we'll need the .22 for small game hunting. :D

what do you guys think of the Berett compact PX4 storm? im thinking the 40 cal because it will be a self defense gun, it will also be a first gun for me.

I have inherited two other guns but have never seen them as my dads (died) sister wont ship them out of fear of prosecution (argh! dont go there ). with that said, its cheaper for me to buy a new gun than fly to NC to pick them up and either ship them to my house or fly them back with me.

i dont think a 9mm will do me much good in a self defense scenario but who am i to say? as i stated ive never handled a gun before.

whats your input?

forgot to mention this will be the gun used for CCW, so do you think i should go with sub compact or just compact? how are you handling/concealing either? one easier than the other to conceal? ive been told (i work for LVMPD), that in a self defense scenario, you'd better be awfully close to the person so a long distance shot doesnt matter (hense the subcompact possibility).

I'm a big fan of the Smith and Wesson M&P series. It comes in 9mm, 40 and 357. I have two in 9mm and personally I think 9mm is more than adequate for a self defense firearm. I also carry a Ruger LCP in 380.

That Beretta has a inch and a half barrel, it will kick. I wouldn't recommend that as a first gun. To be honest I wouldn't recommend it at all.

I agree. Plus, .40 cal is a 'snappy' caliber. There's something about the .40 that just kicks. Now compound that with a short barrel and you'll have a handful. Nothing wrong with 9mm, btw, as long as you select your ammunition carefully. Go with Corbon DPX, or Speer Gold Dots, and you won't have any problems for self-defense. I'm a .45 fan myself, but to each his own.

510z 06-20-2010 03:13 PM

.45 or don't show up to the gun fight.

Haha I agree .45 will put anyone on their @ss. I have two the h&k 45 and dan wesson valor 1911. The dan wesson will put a 1" grouping at 25 yds!!!

You will love It, I just picked one up about a month or so ago off of Gunbroker from a dealer and it shoots like a dream.

Congrats on the purchase

did you take into consideration that the px4 storm has a rotating barrel for recoil, and that a large majority of the PX4 storm owners say their 40 feels like a 9mm kick?

I too was afraid of too strong of a kick but felt better after reading users reviews on that.

I'll have to see if my local gun shops have one to test out.

im going to look into that Smith and Wesson M&P series
