After registering the firearm with the Federal Government by filling out the 4473, of course.
Texas is one state where a NICS check isn't required of people with a CHL. Despite Texas' otherwise mildly restrictive handgun laws, skipping NICS is "common sense" IMHO if you've already undergone a background check for the CHL. |

Yeah, there's paperwork. Takes 5 minutes. You're exactly right on the chl replacing the need for a NICS check. You've already proven you have a clean record, why waste the effort to repeat the process.

Yea, I have read about there shipping taking forever. I was going to go to the factory and buy an AR15 in person. Was told by a sales rep that I can walk in and out in 15 minutes with a an AR15 if I wanted too. It was something like 900 dollars for a basic AR15.

Hi! This is my first post on this thread. Anyone who has a kimber 1911? If you were to choose between custom eclipse target vs custom cdp II, what would it be? Thanks in advance

I've never known anyone who's had a good experience with a Kimber. I'd rather have a loaded Springfield for less money, or step up to something like a Les Baer or Dan Wesson.

How much are you looking to spend? What are you using it for? A 1911 is tough to conceal if you're looking for a carry piece. If you go with less than a 4" barrel, reliability becomes a concern. If I was going for a self defense pistol, I'd look at springfield or rock river. That should get you out the door for $700-1000. Run it by a local pistol smith for a trigger job and some polishing, and you've got a better pistol than a Kimber.

A Colt Gold Cup wouldn't be too bad either in that price range. Unless you spend $2k on one, they'll all need a pistol smith to polish some stuff and clean up the trigger.
