That gun is way over the top! |
My first post in this thread (surprise!).
I have a Colt Combat Commander 70 Series (9mm)... 1978 model. Great gun but definitely way to big to be able to CC. Don't have my carry license but I'm thinking about getting it. I don't have the need/want to carry much, but I want to have the license and I want to have a weapon that is conceal-friendly. I went to a gun show yesterday with some friends to check out a few guns. I had the Springfield XD Subcompact in mind but found it was very bulky. Found I really liked the Sig P238 and P232 on the .380 side of things, but prefered the ergonomics and caliber of the Kahr P9/CW9 and PM9. Not ready to buy anything right now. I need to get back out to the range as I haven't been in years, but at least it was good to get a feel for the type of gun I'd be comfortable carrying concealed. Also hoping I can get the gf into it. She's not a fan of guns but at least she wants a taser... better than nothing! |

Hey all just found the thread thought I would subscribe.
I am an NRA certified instructor. I have built a few ARs and a custom 1911. I compete in the Steel challenge locally. Have a pretty big collection of firearms and in general love to shoot. I have Permits from several states. Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. |

I always have questions and would like your opinion
I bought an AR-15 from CMMG in 6.8 spc. Do you believe this is a viable cartridge or will it die off? I bought a Mil Spec .45 from Springfield Armory a few years ago. It is parkerized which I was told was almost as good as stainless. But it scratches so easy I wonder how the fiinish can hold up and I am very easy and careful with my toys. Is this normal for parkerized finishes to scratch so easily? I also noted the .45 was made by Imbel in Brazil. Do you know if there have been any problems with the Imbel made .45s? I thought I was buying an American made product. Thanks for your help |
I'm still going back and forth between the Springfield XD9 Subcompact and the Kahr CW9/P9 variants for a carry weapon. I like the XD but the double stack design is pretty bulky compared to the Kahr which is just a dream in terms of carry size. I need to check them out again this weekend.

I am not a munitions specialist so I cant speak to ballistics and what not. But from what I hear... it isn't going to become mainstream cartidge. It has it perks and its drawbacks like any other round. What I have heard comments about is that it doesnt do anything any better than anything else, so why go to it? The military doesn't want the 6.8. It may be a great novelty or mid game round. I am not downplaying the novelty of any round, I also have a 6.8. I often add new and obscure guns(calibers) to my collection, but for everyday shooting go with 223. parts and ammo costs etc play in. Ah Parkerizing... We want our toys to look shiny and nice. Reality is that a finish on a gun exists to protect the steel from rust/corrosion. parkerizing is durable in that it will protect the steel bettewr than a lot of other finishes. Dont confuse that with it looking good. :) Actually parkerizing tends to show wear and marks more than many other finishes... Over time you will become acustomed to and appreciate the worn in look of a gun... time will heal that wound. I am not familiar with any problems with Brazil made guns... I believe Taurus and several shotguns are made in Brazil. Many companies produce their lower line stuff in other countries... I like buying american too, but I wouldn't get rid of that springfield at all or think any less of it, it is a good piece. Keep in mind the frame was probably forged there,, it wasn shipped here fitted and assembled right here. Seriously dont let it bother you... enjoy it go shoot it at the range. If you have to sell it call me! |

So where do you guys buy your ammo? I'm in need of some Winchester white box 9mm FMJ for range practice. I figure I might just order from Cabelas since I need some other stuff from them and can take advantage of the free ground shipping on orders over $150 offer.
|
Most of the people I know buy in bulk from Sportsman guide. Sometimes you can find a deal on ammo at Walmart.
