Cinderblock showed penetration through both sides, with VERY little energy remaining upon exit (it bounced off of a soft-cover 1" thick text-book after tearing/denting it heavily). Here is what the round looks like:

The round on the left punched the cinderblock. IN/out both sides, hit the book, dented/tore and bounced off.

The round in the middle is a pulled, unfired projectile.

The round on the right first hit a 3-1/4" thick 1/2gallon cardboard milk-carton full of water, immediately after, a 1" thick soft-cover dry text-book, and immediately after that, it penetrated fully through 2 gallons of water in the form of plastic 1-gallon conventional milk-jugs, and then was found in the bottom of the milk-jug behind them. It expanded to 0.32" by 0.49" at the minimum (measured the narrowest distance "between" the "petals") and maximum (measured across the farthest spanning "petals"). The hole in the cover of the book leads me to believe that it was fully expanded by the time it left the 3-1/4" thick milk-carton, as did the resounding SLAP! of it hitting said book (I was shooting suppressed and using electronic ear-pro. The "SLAP!" was insanely loud.) and it obliterating the cardboard milk carton.

All-in-all, it's a sick round and a great addition to my stash. It will run great out of my 10.5" SBR, and should expand effectively out past the 200 yard mark. Should run about 2475fps from that barrel and the effective expansion threshold is around 1800fps.

*Testing conducted from a 14.5" barrel at roughly 15 yards. As a size-reference, the pulled projectile mic's 1.038" in length.
Thats the first time I ever heard of a 5.56 round going completely through a cinderblock. Do you have video or at least photo of the block? This is an interesting round.
Who makes the Brown-tip? Penetration is unlike most 5.56 ammo and on a borderline, decent bullet weight

I can take photos of the block in a few days, it's not at my apartment, lol.

I cannot tell you who makes Brown Tip, but I can tell you that Barnes manufactures the projectile.

I have put XM556FBIT3 and M855 through cinderblock, as well, but they are not near as consistent. Still, even the brown-tip just "made it through". It certainly wouldn't be lethal on the other side from what I saw. More like UGLY! bruise.

But we also lose the ability to transport our weapons out of state without prior ATF permission. And there are all sorts of issues about possession. No one can touch it without being under your supervision. And we'd only be allowed to have one "feature".

This is a hard thing GC can affect our right and sport in a number of ways. Last I heard this morning. The current bill proposed has a grandfather clause. So that's a small hint of good news.

Sucks for people that don't already own though.

they sure are good at stimulating our countries economy. See the tactic behind this gun drama? lol

Thinking about it, 68 86 94 and 2013 are all bad economy years.

Thats true. Tax stamped weapons are highly controlled. It would pretty much make it a SHTF gun only, sport and defense while traveling will become complicated. There's nothing like an AR/AK when you're driving out through back country.

I would hate to lose that right and be driving in an unpoliced Danger Zone where evil doers don't follow GC laws. People back home in the east don't really know what it's like driving through the desert at 2am. If they did? They'd understand the need for civilian AR's. I'm one Yankee that learned that in my first 9 months in Tx. The AR is the most versatile and useful rifle.

It's fun- so many types of sport the design qualifies for.
Its light and compact. Maneuverable and lightweight enough for men, women, responsibly taught children, the elderly and disabled can still safely fire, while still carrying relatively good defensive stopping power.

Its very accurate for its size. 300yrd game hunting from a 14.5/16" barrel. Not many rifles can claim that @ those sizes.

Versatile, from hunting to defense, it fits the build. And Everyone should own one. It's the national rifle. Really, I don't get it.

This is what I'm worried about. I can't afford to own any weapons that tie me into a state. I'm actually planning on moving everything I own to CA-compliant...which sucks

That really does suck. I like all the people I have met from CA, and I can google images as well as anyone, but I just could not live there. I'm leaving Louisiana, but California is certainly not on my list. What draws you there? I guess everyone has priorities.

Nothing in particular besides money.

I'm not on track to go there, but my job is extremely unpredictable.

I'm going to end up taking about a $40K/year pay-cut to leave Louisiana. Some things are worth more than money.
