VBAM, what are you shooting in 300blk before you reload. I've been using hornady hv for hunting and some targets, even tried some of Leigh Defense special rounds to see if they did what is claimed. (They do). But I have no where near even 300 rounds so wondering what you like best.

Now I'm hearing by the end of May I should hear about it.

Quick question: is it worth getting a .22 AR-15? again this would just be for the range and .22 is so much ******* cheaper to shoot.

The handgun will be range use and home defense.

Only worth it if you have rock-and-roll mode. YMMV

For plinking, FMJs can be found pretty cheap.

If these are your first guns, and you are thinking 22 for plinking and learning... just get a simple reliable 22 semi auto rifle .. non ar style.

Look for sales on Ruger , Marlin, Savage your pick.. when you are ready for 223, or 556 then buy it and you still have a 22 in the closet for fun too.

I suggest .. look up Appleseed project if you do not have a lot of range time.. took my boys to these great training.

:iagree:

Hard to go wrong with a Ruger 10/22.

The only factory ammo I shot before going to reloads was the Barnes VOR-TX (110 grain). I got into 300Blk really early in the game and it was the only available ammo at the time. Very good round, reliable and accurate. Still have a few boxes of that ammo laying around.

Really haven't shot much 300Blk. Still working on those 500 rounds and they were made about 4 years ago. Since getting my Tavors I don't like AR-15s any more. I'm really into bullpups now (keep trying to justify buying a SRS-A1 lol). I probable will get back into 300Blk when I get a Tavor SAR or X-95 in 300Blk. Most likely would get a X-95 in 300Blk and SBR it. IWI is now selling the factory short sight rail, short hand guard and thin butt pad that go on the select fire X-95 so people can SBR X-95s. A X-95 SBR in 300Blk would be epic.

Just to give you an idea on how short a X-95 SBR would be:

My 16.5" barreled Bushmaster ACR vs my 16.5" Tavor SAR
Similar length of pull, ACR stock fully extended.

ACR stock fully collapsed (similar length to a 16" AR-15 with it's stock fully collapsed)

16.5" barreled Tavor SAR vs 13" barreled select fire X-95

:iagree: What they said.

You can get an AR-15 style stock later on for pretty much any 22lr rifle out there, Ruger 10/22 being the easiest. Considering you live in NJ a 10/22 or similar rifle would be a good way to go. I would think it would be easier to get a 10/22 than an AR-15 style 22 in NJ.

Once you move to a free state then get an AR-15 :stirthepot:

I have shot about 60 rounds of the Barnes as well about as accurate as round as I have seen. Had a chance to fire a Tabor bullpup once , it was different . Not bad but different ergonomics for some used to target rifles.

Agreed 200% they just shoot and you can upgrade any way you want

I have 2 10/22s with just some minor upgrades and then a tactical solutions xring version.
I love putting holes inside holes.

For me there was nothing to get used to. I had minimal experience behind AR-15s and similar rifles. When I picked up a Tavor it felt like it was made for me. I like having an almost SBR length rifle (talking only 1/8") with out having my arms all scrunched up from the super short length of pull. Also having a 16.5" barrel is a plus too. The faster a 5.56 round can go the better is works.

Looking to get a semi-auto 308 bullpup at some point. Hopefully Desert Tech's MDR will come out soon because I don't like KelTec's RFB. I wish Desert Tech's SRS-A1 was cheaper because I really want a bullpup bolt action rifle. I was actually surprised when they announced the pricing for the MDR. MSRP for the MDR in 308 is $2.5k which is not bad considering the SCAR 17S and other high end semi auto 308s easily go for over $3K. That $2.5K MSRP is big difference compared to their bolt action bullpup, the SRS-A1, that goes for close to $5K.

SouthArk370Z 05-06-2017 08:23 AM

I bought a cheap ($8) endoscope the other day. Small enough to fit down a .22 barrel.

Note: The unit linked to works with Windows (works well on my Win10 system) and Android but not iOS. Should be some similar units for you Apple folks.

Edit: If anyone runs across a cheap one that will fit down a .177 barrel, please let me know. I have several pellet/BB guns I'd like to check.

Yep. NJ sucks donkey balls. I looked into a polymer 80 but nope not legal. Once you drill the holes necessary to complete the gun, NJ considers you a manufacturer and can't be a gun manufacturer in NJ. Still waiting on my permit. I'm hearing end of May now.

Wow... since an 80% has no serial number, how in the world would they know if you have it? Buy the lower out of state, and build the gun. Uppers are not serialized, unless NJ has some effed up law that says you have to get permission to buy an upper, then the same applies, buy it out of state. It wouldn't surprise me if NJ X-rays all packages looking for gun parts... :shakes head:

Dude.... you seriously need to move out of that state, especially if you want to build a collection of toys. You've been waiting on permission for how long?..... 8 months? :stirthepot:

I lost track of how long dude. I might try ordering an 80% lower and see what happens

Yeah, but you're relying on someone else to make sure YOU don't commit a felony. What happens if they make a mistake and ship it to you, and you end up with a "go directly to jail" card in your mailbox?

Notice I said order it. It only becomes illegal once the holes are drilled in this ***-backwards state.

So this Saturday I got distracted and wandered into my local Buds. I ended up renting the FNH Five-Seven to shoot. I absolutely love the round, but damn I hate that gun lol.

Now you guys need to apply for a CW permit. According to an article I read recently, it's not impossible to get one in NJ. :ugh2:

My friend's father can't get one even though he's a retired cop. NJ's reasoning being PTSD from responding on 9/11. According to the state, he's not fit to own any firearm now because of it

Not to be a liberal douche bag **** rag but if you have a serious enough issue to be able to retire from a duty to hold a gun maybe you shouldn't be able to hold a gun 24/7. Just saying.

Yeah that sucks, I HATE how they said the air if FINE and OK the BREATH that was complete BS. But if you don't have PTSD don't say you have PTDS, it lessens the values of the people that do have it.
