OK, so these watches are pretty cool. If you are into old school military style watches, J. Crew and Timex teamed up to offer a very affordable vintage line.

And here's just a very classy, simple piece:

The two field watches are $150 each. They have a bunch of different strap styles as well. The other model is $195.

:iagree: I like retro design, those are nice. Swiss Army did or maybe still does something similar.

I definitely like the looks. Might be something I'd wear in my home life. It just would not mesh well in my work attire, which is often very modern looking.

Today I wore my Seiko SKX031 (submariner style) on an olive MARATAC strap. It did not go with what I was wearing but I didn't give a shiite. Though I probably won't do it again... haha.

frost 07-06-2010 09:33 PM

wow, it really works with the different bands

m4a1mustang 07-06-2010 09:36 PM

Yeah, I love it. It's my favorite one right now. If I didn't spend money on the Z I think I'd be spending all my money on watches.

antennahead 07-06-2010 09:37 PM

I like the stainless band myself :ugh2:

m4a1mustang 07-06-2010 09:37 PM

Oh and weekenders. I am obsessed with those. Canvas ones...

frost 07-06-2010 09:38 PM

I like the bond strap, I probably just wouldn't wear it to work. But with the stainless, it looks totally cool to go to work with.

jeez, me too, if I wasn't trying to pay off the house by next year. Watches, sunglasses, I would have a wide collection of both.

Yup... watches, sunglasses, shoes, bags... All the good stuff. I won't buy a tote, though. I think totes for guys are gay.

Hey everyone, do you need me to carry anything for you in my tote? :superghey:

frost 07-06-2010 09:40 PM

I have a few vices that I would likely invest my money in if not for the Z. Cigars comes quickly to mind.

A friend of mine is a cigar connoisseur. I go over every now and then to sample some and enjoy it, but it's just one more thing that I don't have the time or money to get into for myself. Though I should probably get a small humidor and a lighter just for whenever.

I've even held off on doing any more mods to the Z until the house is paid and I do a new roof, then payoff the Z. So that's a year from now on the house, 6 months after that for the roof, then another 6 for the Z ............... then I am debt free and the rest of the mods begin. New exhaust, tires, and an expensive audio upgrade including a stealth sub in the spare, high end head unit and amps and speakers............ a real SQ system like I used to do 20 years ago :p

You have to light a cigar with a wooden match. Well, you don't have to, but if you're going to get a small humidor, you may as well get the matches and do it right :icon17:

Here is the humidor I have, $35 and it comes with an inscription

I have a weird feeling that within the next two years, my tv, water heater, and AC will die. So I'm trying to build a little nest egg.

I replaced the kitchen appliances a year and a half ago, had the original ones from 1996 when I built the house......... all new stainless models. Hot water heater is good, AC/heat pump is original, and the guy that replaced a part on it said they could just keep replacing parts if I wanted to, as they break, lol. I am not into replacing that thing right now. Roof is limping along, needs replacing soon. I am going with a metal roof so I get a lifetime roof (or the rest of my life at least), versus architectural shingles again. Goal is that when I retire, nothing needs to be replaced or done. Washer and dryer are 16 years old as well................ I hope they last a few more :p

Just one of those cigar-etiquette things. The fuel in lighters (with the exception of butane) supposedly fuck up the taste.

They make long cedar matches just for this purpose. You're supposed to wait until the flame gets beyond the tip, so that you're only lighting with the flame on the wood portion. You also never put a cigar out, you let it extinguish itself.

I know the last part. I have never used a cedar match to light one, though. Always just a butane Zippo.

The ritual of lighting a cigar involves two very important principals. The first involves the instruments used to light the cigar and the second the enjoyment of your Habano. To begin with always use a butane lighter or a cedar or wooden match-stick. Try to never use a petrol lighter, a candle or a wax match as all of these impart odours that the cigar is quick to absorb. The second principle to remember is that a cigar must be lit with the utmost patience and tranquillity. Nothing spoils the enjoyment of a Habano faster than a badly lit cigar.

shumby 07-06-2010 10:09 PM

At a 90 degree angle hold your cigar above the flame of your lighter. Burning directly in the flame makes it too hot. Patiently twist or rotate the cigar until all parts of the foot are evenly charred.

Place the cigar to your lips and with the flame still under the foot puff gently onto the cigar until the flames jump up. Continue to slowly rotate the cigar while occasionally blowing on the foot to ensure an even burn.

Rotate around evenly.

I've heard rumors of some people trying to light cigars with the sun and a magnifying glass so that they would have the purest light. But I'm doubtful that's any more than a wives tale.

m4a1mustang 07-06-2010 10:13 PM

If that's a tote, then that's a tote of death.

I'm talking about something like this:

http://images.jcrew.com/erez4/erez?s...if&tmp=prdDtIm

I know some guys will carry those around as a carryall... no way. Not for me.

Though for a weekender JCrew has this Belstaff which is very nice:

http://images.jcrew.com/erez4/cache/...a67f0717b7.jpg

But for $395 I will wait until it inevitably pops up on sale for under $200.

frost 07-06-2010 10:13 PM

Good posts shumby! I completely forgot about not putting the cigar directly in the flame.

That just reminds me of that Acura commercial when the guys are trying to explain why they made certain luxury purchases.

I know the whole rotate while lighting, keep it directly out of the flame bit. I think as long as you can do that you're good... I don't think using magnified sun rays is going to make my experience any better. Well, maybe it will taste better because I had to wait so long to light the damn thing. :icon18:

If it were true, this would be the place to do it (phoenix). A couple years ago, the local news team went and cooked eggs on one of our sidewalks. :shakes head:
