The Finer Things in Life

This is a thread to discuss some of our other passions. You name it, cigars, pipes, alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages, food, knives/guns, books, clothing, pens, watches, etcetera. Anything goes as long it's upscale/refined in nature.

My Current Shaver:

http://www.the370z.com/members/frost...1-bismarck.jpg

I haven't gotten into sharpening it with the stones, I send it out for that, but obviously it has to be stropped prior to use. In a world where everything is faster, faster, faster, it's almost like meditating to slow it down for a couple minutes and perform a quality shave.

Anyone ever use ice substitutes to prevent dilution, such as the Whiskey Stones?

Whisky Stones - Soapstone "Ice Cubes" for Whiskey Lovers

I've always tended to stick to the 2-cube max rule, but I wouldn't be opposed to using these.

Any talc users? There are only a few brands most people would consider "refined," such as Clubmans, J&J, Borotalco, Caswell-Massey. Any others you guys use or recommend?

I like the BookBook, a little more upscale protection for your Macbook.
Each one is hand aged and unique....

Clubmans has always been kind of the standard IMO :tiphat:

Unique because they can't hand age two the same way I assume? They look gorgeous, how much?

Clubmans is indeed pretty traditional, and a good value from what I remember.
I haven't used their talc, but I still occasionally use their special reserve aftershave. :tiphat:

I'll admit, I've never had the bantai civet coffee, but understand the process of using the civet animals to eat and break down the enzymes of the beans. That being said, is it actually good coffee, or just exclusive?

It's different. If I had not gotten it as a gift, I doubt very much that I would have spent $75 for a pound of it. I have, however, spent 8x's that on an ounce of very good sinsemilla, I am, after all, a connoisseur. :D

I was just posting a link to kopi luwak, another civet type coffee. I've never tried either, but I hear the taste is much better than other coffees. Supposed to taste like caramel.

That's certainly much more than the $30 most people spend on the green.

Who gave you a gift of $75/lb coffee?

It's funny, because if you ask most people if they liked the old designs, most would agree. So I always ask myself why we don't just make cars to look like the classics. I don't mean like the new mustang and it's attempt at recreating, but a very close recreation. I would guess it has something to do with safety and other standards that must now be met, but could be off base.

frost 04-18-2010 07:07 PM

Speaking of talc powder, I found this while doing some reading on different brands:

Many people use talc after bathing or to soothe irritated or inflamed skin. What most people don't know is that there is an inextricable link between tacl and asbestos, which virtually everyone knows causes cancer. In fact, the two are virtually chemically identical.

As a consequence, talc manufacturers have played down the link, whilst doing there best to ensure that their powders contain no asbestos fibres. Unfortunately, this isn't enough.

A 1993 US National Toxicology Program report found that comsetic grade talc, even though it contained no asbestos-like fibres, caused tumours in animals. It would therefore appear that, whether asbestos-like fibres are present or not, cosmetic grade talcum powder is a carcinogen (causes cancer).

I see an auto like the Aston Martin One-77 as a modern day design that embodies what the old super cars (like the pic you posted) were all about! :tiphat:
