I have a macbook and i want to start downloading songs again but im soo scared of viruses and screwing up my perfect little lappy. any suggestions? i used limewire

MAC users...
I have a macbook and i want to start downloading songs again but im soo scared of viruses and screwing up my perfect little lappy. any suggestions? i used limewire a longggg time ago on my desktop but i dont kno if thats what messed it up or what. mac's supposeably have good protection but i need some feedback if you dont mind! thanxxx
