You're not to run filters with catch cans. If you do, you're NOT pulling a vacuum all the way through the system. Nothing is coming from the valve covers to the intake manifold. It's going from the filters to the manifold.

Agreed, and the way my setup was run was PCV to catch can to atmo. There was no return line to the manifold.

You must be super sensitive to the smell. It rare i smell anything from them and it's an occasional light wiff when I do

It's most noticeable to me at a stop light when I'm drawing air from the engine bay.
