i had a couple close calls myself.. the decision to let riding go was actually pretty easy.

Ok, my first bike back in the day was called a cafe racer (no such thing as a sport bike back then) was a 1973 Yamaha RD350. Bought it in 1975. It had a ton of work done to it. Nothing like two stroke power. It had a powerband like a big turbo car. Fuk'n thing was scary to ride. In 1985 I got into sport bikes (1985 Kawasaki 600 Ninja) and every year after that up until the early 90's I had the newest bikes to come out. Then I got smart and decided I didn't want to die on a bike and got out of them.

Rusty should remember the RD350

I roadraced one. Also had a Yammie TZ350. Had a powerband of 7,500 to 10,000 rpm. Nothing below, or above that.

It was. It was tiny. Under 200 lbs, and made about 80 HP. Easy to work on. In practice. You was always playing around with the jetting. For the race. You hoped that you got it right. If not. It would either load up, or seize up at speed. Bought spark plugs by the case. Mixed the oil and gas together. Always used Castrol Bean oil. That's one smell that I will never forget. A 2 stroke burning bean oil.

200 lb, 80 hp two stroke, I love it. That thing must have been a handful. I used to foul so many freaking plugs. I'd carry a couple extras with me. Even splitting the cases was simple. I still ran the oil injection because too much of a hassle mixing for the street. I loved the smell of the castor oil. If I remember right, Klotz was was everybody was running.

I stepped off of one at 120 mph on the track. I had a few get-offs at the track. On the street. Only had one accident. Hit a cow on a back country road doing 80+ mph at night. Missed the first 2 cows and didn't see the 3rd one until I hit it. The cows had broken through a fence and was running free on the road. The farmer paid for everything.
