I have a Sony and it’s fantastic. I also have a LG OLED. It’s really good but only with zero ambient light. The LED Sony is better for day watching and rooms with a lot of natural light.

I'm happy with my Samsung TVs. Haven't strayed in about 6 generations and always been happy. Whether I purchase a newer model or a budget model, I'm pretty happy. Although I will say the $200 50" I purchased Black Friday 2017 has annoying quirk where it doesn't seem to save the wireless network info. However, I found an easy workaround is to turn it on, then hold down the power button until it turns off and then back on to a splash screen. Voila the wireless works again without me having to re-enter all the login/pass info

Are you looking for quality or value? Sports or movies or something specific? Do you care about any specific features/apps on your TV? A fire stick or chrome cast or roku or something can possibly supplement TV apps. Need to know your needs...

Well I did it. Little over $2K for FA coils and a bunch of SPL parts. Tapped into the lift fund so that may or may not happen by Dec. Definitely doable by Feb/March though

I appreciate all the previous comments on the television question....

I just wondered about the different technologies and what would work well for all around general usage. I want get me one of them new TV’s that are fairly smart.

I have kinda poor eyesight and will sitting about 24” away from the screen.

The TV will be for watching everything from sports to soft porn to home improvement shows... and maybe even some reruns of Gilligan's Island or that old gal named Orca Winfrey

All variety’s of lighting conditions from daylight in a very bright home to total darkness while sitting partially naked on a little metal folding chair...

Sorry to be so honest, but it’s who I am..

I was a big fan of Trinitron monitors. My Dad tried to give me a large Trinitron TV about 10 years ago but it was too heavy for us to move. He ended up getting a couple of big guys to haul it to Goodwill.

A sweet "color" Curtis Mathes console unit sound just up your alley.

What lift are you looking at? I thought you were ceiling limited at less than 9ft?

I’ve been nothing but happy with my Sony’s and that’s what I’d recommend. For varying lighting conditions I’d go LED. For a 4k TV go at least one size bigger than you would for a 1080HD TV. If you think you need 55”, buy 65”. Sony has a huge price range so it really comes down to what you want and are willing to spend.

Yeah I had a Trinitron in college. Hell of a TV.

I was going to say mine do this all the time and I just started yanking the plug out of the wall and plugging it back in and it sinks back up. I'm going to try it your way as it seems easier.
