i think i may just go with whichever outlasts the others. the grip is about the same between them all. but i have like 3 long trips i want to take the GT-R on this summer.

think when the weather breaks im gonna go to toronto, then zdayz in may, myrtle in june, then possibly another beach for sisters wedding when they pick a date and location.

I am leaning towards the R888's. They are the only ones that have a chance of hooking up when warm. Not sure how long they are going to last.

My engine building guy sent me a picture of the AAM intercooler. It had a lot of slag. Is this normal to have this much slag in here?? The intake pipes are also offset.

That is a negative. That is not normal. It may be normal for an AAM kit though.

just make sure to keep an eye out for the turbo oil line issues. that seems to be a big one.

also, i agree that the intercooler should not be full of slag like that.

Sounds like your shop is keeping an eye out while installing it. THats a big step in the right direction. Look into possibly getting an exa pump for the oil return. I believe that has solved the smoking turbos issue for a few guys. Double check in the FI section to be sure, see my comment above about my memory :icon17:

Would you mind expanding on the oil line issues? Exactly what has been wrong with the lines? I would rather fix now while it is in the shop.

issues with the oil feed lines to the turbos resulting in smoking turbos or burning them up from being dry.

there's some better info in the forced induction section with actual examples.

found one.

Don’t think flying to Houston and getting blackout drunk are mutually exclusive.

As I understand it, based on the design of the kit, at idle, and likely low rpms, there isn’t enough head pressure from the turbos to return oil to the oil pan, therefore; oil collects and leaks past the seals causing it to smoke.

Edit - I just read that post. That appears to be a different issue than my tuner was having with those kits.

yea thats an issue for sure but ive read others with more than just one oil issue. its a flawed kit in general. also thats partially the turbos restricting oil as well from what i've read.

Oh and my birthday is Saturday. To help with your shopping, I like, in no particular order:

- Whiskey (Sweet Bourbons, Irish And Some Canadian Whiskeys)
- Guns
- Car Parts
- Electronics
- Gift cards always work

How do they get slag when welding aluminum? Should be zero slag when welding. Aluminum welding doesn't produce slag.

You don't use stainless welding aluminum. It's aluminum with aluminum. When welding stainless tubing. You HAVE to purge the inside of the tubing with argon gas. Otherwise the weld on the inside will sugar and product a bad weld.

Remember that tires like the R888's, and Cup 2's don't do well in the rain. ;) You have to back your speed way down.

We had a torrential downpour in the mountains in virginia or wherever on the way to zdayz. The back end felt like it was just floating on top of a raging river. 35 mph with flashers on going down hill, that was butt puckering.

Especially when they are on the wear bars. LOL You don't get money back for extra rubber left on the tires.

Spooler 12-27-2018 01:14 PM

If the R888r's will do as good as RE11's in the rain I won't complain at all. They are not going to last as long but oh well. That is what I am going to get. I have made up my mind, R888r's it is.
