Thinking about a 370z or Evo coming from a Camaro
Hey everyone,
I'm new to this site and new to japanese cars. I've owned 3 Camaros and a Cobra, so i'm familiar with V8 power not smaller engines pumping out 300+ hp.. Anyway, i'm considering getting into either a 370z or a 2009 Lancer Evolution however im still pretty fond of the way my 02 Z28 looks and all of its torque. It does lack control and refinement and its an auto. I'd rather have a tighter car with a stick. I'm considering the Evo because it seems to be pretty incredible in the Snow but it lacks a lot in the looks department. I think the 370z looks sexy and its probably pretty quick. What do you guys think about the Lancer Evo? Can you guys help me with this decision? |

The 370 will be awesome in the snow if you slap a proper set of winter tires on it for the colder months.

Evo X: Technicalities aside, the Evo X has a pretty weak clutch. If you want more power, forget the SST auto-manual transmission. It is a pretty heavy car at around 3500lbs. Lots of electronics going on, so if things break, look out. (A friend of mine with an 08 Evo X experience some electrical issues early on.) People complained about the turbo lag the Evo X has. Be warned that the manual version of the Evo X (GSR) is a 5 speed. Freeway driving at 80mph and the revs are pretty high. There are complaints of interior being cheaply made (A different friend of mine that owned a 2010 model had rattling issue after 1k miles.) 370Z: Now, on to the 370Z. It is a bit lighter at around 3300lbs. You lose rear seats and trunk room. It is rear wheel drive, which you are accustomed to by now. It will feel very nimble and has decent amount of torque. The interior is way better and the cockpit gives you that pure sports car feel. Performance: I am talking strictly about potential. The Evo X will win hands down. Dollar for dollar and mod for mod, the Evo X is very hard to beat. It will cost a lot less to make the Evo more powerful. The all wheel drive system is a monster at tracks (but its electronic helps the driver out A LOT). |

i think it really does come down to the type of car you want - fast 4 seater AWD, or 2 seater sports car RWD. Both cars are great choices, the 370z fit my needs better, however. |

style and refinement goes to the Z, if u just want a quick 4 banger, that is easy to mod get the evo.
but of course it's all about preferences. your the one going to be driving the car, get what makes you happy

When I was shopping for mine I was looking at Mustangs and the like, not Evos but I'd go with the Z. Its a true sports car. But you can't go wrong with the Evo. When abouts in N. Jersey you at?

I personally would choose the 370z over the Evo, I own the 370 and I have ridden in my friends Evo numerous times(he owns a Evo X, newer body) even though they improved the interior quality in both my and his opinion the Z has a nicer interior. I cant speak much about snow seeing as I live in miami, however if I may play devils advocate without getting flamed to badly why are you not considering a new camaro? Only reason I ask is because you say you are coming from a Z28.

Well man i had an EVO 8 problem child before my 370z......so i cant give you a full experience in the car, i can give you buying a used evo advice. DO a good inspection on injectors......wiring harness Etc... People run the hell out of them...put a bunch of mods and then trade them in taking the easy mods off and putting the stock stuff back on. Just watch what you buy......a glance at the engine bay can be decieving.

V8
You'll need to make a choice on the looks
But more importantly, I think you need to test drive the Z to make sure it's quick enough- You may look at a Mustang GT with its 2 additional cylinders let us know how it turns out! |
