I didn't, and now the part of the exhaust that is touching the brace has a lovely dent in it. Oh well... :shakes head:

Mine has been off since install because when I was doing it late night, I didn't want to take a grinder to it and wake everyone up. So I just took it off completely and sand papered the area where it was hitting so I knew where exactly it needed to be ground down

As I stated earlier, my brace was bent around the piping. This is so we retain more rigidity as opposed to shaving the brace.

Yeah, like I said I spun the pipe ever so slightly so it wouldn't touch. I am not grinding or bending the bracing to make anything fit, just not my cup of tea. I called Z1 today to inquire about if the can is titanium or thin wall stainless and they believe it is thin wall stainless. I got a lovely dent the diameter of a golf ball and about half an inch deep right in the bottom of the car from some **** roads on Saturday. Was pissed. But anyways I talked to them about it and they did what I was planning on doing when I go get tuned on the first and fabbed a little skid plate and have it tacked on to the bottom of the can. They have scarped theirs numerous times and did the skid plate thing also.

I put all 4 of my springs on with no problems

SlowZ 07-22-2014 03:14 AM

Abm89 how did you bend it? This is my problem now. I can't even get the bar to go over the exhaust and to be even close to bolting up so it needs a pretty severe bend in it. My other option is having a buddy just make me a brand new bent bar or something. Idk just tossing up ideas since I'm close friends with a fab guy

The tech at the shop I went to used a hydraulic press.

Here is a picture if my installation. The amount of stiffness lost in the rear is barely noticeable.

Yeah that is why you can line them up. I still have the bar in there, I wasn't able to line them up.

shoot this exhaust hangs way too low for the track and sticks too much past the bumper.......

Japanjay 07-22-2014 07:08 PM

Z1 runs it on their race car BTW. It is race proven I guess you can say. I am going to be contacting them again about getting some pictures of the mini skid plate they fabbed up for the bottom of the can so I can duplicate it.

Interesting since they claim to never scrape theirs....

Also that's an expected result of installing an exhaust designed for the Z33.

SlowZ 07-22-2014 07:29 PM

Without the bar my Z feels way too soft like it has a lot of body roll in the rear. I'm having someone notch into mine to see if I can get it to clear. If not then I'll just have a custom bar made or something. My budy offered to hook me up with like 100ft of titanium exhaust wrap, idk if it's worth it or if any of you guys would do it to your exhaust

Now I know what the silliest looking exhaust looks like.

To me, it's awesome! I grew up lusting over cars with big, single side cans, like the Supra. So having one on my Z takes me back. If there was an easy way to cover or fill the right cutout, I would do it, but no one seems to make a rear lip in that style.
