Tomei exhaust issues

Fixed

Mine went on last week just fine and everything needed came with it. You are talking the back rear hangar right? It is the only one used.

SlowZ 07-19-2014 11:45 PM

Jay- really? Even if it is for the 350z, it should be a lot closer than what it is to actually fitting

Japanjay 07-19-2014 11:48 PM

I didn't use that hangar. Just the back rear. It is so light and strong, I just said meh.... Now the back one I did go get longer bolts and stack a bunch of washers to lower it down. I did not also use the springs choose to use the clamps, allows you not have to have the spring loops lined perfectly up. That you can kinda spin it a bit more to get everything to sit properly. I post some pictures in a few.

Japanjay 07-19-2014 11:51 PM

This is what you get to look forward to when you get it all together. I am also running Z1's test pipes.

WTF is all the spotty **** on the titanium between the bubble wrap and the resonator?

SlowZ 07-19-2014 11:54 PM

Water that I didn't take off. I got a smudge on there and wiped it down. Will clean it off once it's all on there. That's why I kept the bubble wrap on to try to keep it pretty lol

SlowZ 07-19-2014 11:55 PM

I'm going to go back out and try to fit everything again. Thanks for the heads up

Japanjay 07-19-2014 11:59 PM

Gimmie about 15 minutes to get the pictures all uploaded from my phone to my photobucket account, then I will upload them.

Japanjay 07-20-2014 12:09 AM

So the picture at the beginning of the video before it plays show how I got to sit perfectly in the muffler cut out area. These are the rest:

http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps0p97i2yp.jpg
Stacked a bunch of washer and got longer bolts to drop the hangar down some to get the pipe to sit just right.
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...psz3cu81vt.jpg
Notice the spring attachment points, not lined up due to sinning the pipe a little to get the rear section to look right coming out the rear.

Z1 said there is place you have to grind down a little, but with dropping the hangar down some you squeak through:

I am lowered on H&R, I cant go over any speed bumps with this now. I caught the bottom of the can on shitty roads today in the city to, shouldn't have been out that way, but had to get to the closest DMV before they closed. Bad side of town = just as bad roads. But outside of that I have really hit it on anything, but I have been super cautious at entry and egress into and out of places.... Only about 2.5" off the ground at the bottom of the can.

SlowZ 07-20-2014 01:28 AM

This is how it currently sits. Just have to tighten the vband from the muffler to the mid pipe and I'm ready to start it up. I'm on BC BR on the lowest setting in the rear

SlowZ 07-20-2014 01:34 AM

Jay thank you very much... I wouldn't have continued if you didn't give me your advice. I appreciate it. Start up is near ;)

SlowZ 07-20-2014 01:49 AM

To anyone else that has this exhaust... How close are you guys to the exhaust hitting the away bar? I'm literally a few millimeters away from it touching and I don't like that. My exhaust is also barely touching the shield under the driveshaft and if I push the exhaust down it barely touches the brace thing. I'm thinking about notching into the shield because it's very thin and all I need is a few milimeters of space. I'll try adjusting things tomorrow but for now I just want to go on a drive lol

Japanjay 07-20-2014 05:36 AM

That doesn't look right in the last picture??? Did you leave it like that?

aszyd 07-20-2014 10:32 AM

I need to drop the rear hangar, like JapanJay, to get it off of the rear brace, but other that that, it fit perfectly. I also did not use the middle hangar.

My only real issue with this exhaust is the nasty sound when I decel with no throttle, sounds like a Civic with a cheap exhaust. Does that happen to anyone else?

Japanjay 07-20-2014 02:02 PM

Mine is that way to, probably since neither of us run cats. It is from like 3-4k

SlowZ 07-20-2014 04:37 PM

Yeah I just left it like that because it was midnight and I didn't have any washers. I test drove it and I had zero rattles or weird sounds. I passed a civic and at the next light he's like hey man that thing sounds badaśs!
I have test pipes too and the thing just screams.
On decel I do get that kinda weird sound aszyd is talking about.
Other than that the exhaust is perfect minus the missing bolts. With the bolts I received, I would have only been able to put 1 in each each flange.

SlowZ 07-20-2014 05:39 PM

My mid pipe is hitting my sway bar now. Idk how you adjusted your hanger without it hitting anything. I got 2 inch spacers and nothing is working

aszyd 07-20-2014 06:50 PM

I don't hit the rear sway bar. Even pushed up against the rear brace, I have a good 1" of clearance at the sway bar. I do have Whiteline sways, but I remember them being shaped exactly the same as the stock bars, just thicker. When I was messing around with the exhaust today, I found that twisting the pipes had a major effect on how the exhaust would hang on the car. Perhaps you should recheck all of the connection points and see if twisting something will align it better.

SlowZ 07-20-2014 06:59 PM

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/...psc76smlkb.jpg

Final product. I took the vband off the mid pipe and the muffler and literally twisted maybe a 1/4 inch and it line up perfectly without having to use washers on the hanger. I can hear a slight rubbing noise when I get out if first but I'll track it down and just put some header wrap on it or something. Kinda over messing with this thing lol. But all said and done I'm very pleased with how it looks and sounds right now

Japanjay 07-20-2014 10:19 PM

Can you take a picture of the section that slips into the can section but at the opposite end of the can, trying to see how the spring attachment loops are in compared to mine. I would like to not have to extend the hangar, would help with the ground clearance I am dealing with.

SlowZ 07-20-2014 11:37 PM

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/...pssfcklvqx.jpg

Does that help?

SlowZ 07-20-2014 11:40 PM

They are lined up. Just haven't put the spring in. Don't know if they are really needed because it's on there pretty tight

Those springs are there to reduce the stress on the system. You won't need to have those clamps so tight since they will help hold the system in place.

Have someone bend your rear brace. Also, mine sounds like a F1 engine with the off throttle blown exhaust Lol.

SlowZ 07-21-2014 04:07 PM

Yeah I just took mine out on my lunch break and I was winding out first gear and my co worker said two guys gave me a thumbs up lol. Anything past 3k is deafening

Japanjay 07-21-2014 05:26 PM

Next joint down what the one I was referring to. Where the next set of springs go. And yeah, anything past 3k is retarded.

SlowZ 07-21-2014 09:19 PM

Kk I'll jack up the car right now and take a pic. Also, how much did you guys shave down the rear brace? Mine has been off since install because when I was doing it late night, I didn't want to take a grinder to it and wake everyone up. So I just took it off completely and sand papered the area where it was hitting so I knew where exactly it needed to be ground down

aszyd 07-21-2014 09:40 PM

I didn't, and now the part of the exhaust that is touching the brace has a lovely dent in it. Oh well... :shakes head:

As I stated earlier, my brace was bent around the piping. This is so we retain more rigidity as opposed to shaving the brace.

Japanjay 07-21-2014 10:31 PM

Yeah, like I said I spun the pipe ever so slightly so it wouldn't touch. I am not grinding or bending the bracing to make anything fit, just not my cup of tea. I called Z1 today to inquire about if the can is titanium or thin wall stainless and they believe it is thin wall stainless. I got a lovely dent the diameter of a golf ball and about half an inch deep right in the bottom of the car from some **** roads on Saturday. Was pissed. But anyways I talked to them about it and they did what I was planning on doing when I go get tuned on the first and fabbed a little skid plate and have it tacked on to the bottom of the can. They have scarped theirs numerous times and did the skid plate thing also.

SlowZ 07-21-2014 10:50 PM

I put all 4 of my springs on with no problems

SlowZ 07-22-2014 03:14 AM

Abm89 how did you bend it? This is my problem now. I can't even get the bar to go over the exhaust and to be even close to bolting up so it needs a pretty severe bend in it. My other option is having a buddy just make me a brand new bent bar or something. Idk just tossing up ideas since I'm close friends with a fab guy

The tech at the shop I went to used a hydraulic press.

abm89 07-22-2014 06:24 PM

Here is a picture if my installation. The amount of stiffness lost in the rear is barely noticeable.

Japanjay 07-22-2014 06:44 PM

Yeah that is why you can line them up. I still have the bar in there, I wasn't able to line them up.

martin82 07-22-2014 07:01 PM

shoot this exhaust hangs way too low for the track and sticks too much past the bumper.......
