WHAT! That new license plate cover is BA! Tony how much for one of those? I have the original.

Fern to the Z 04-10-2011 03:40 PM

370Z TDX Cat Back Exhaust System is this by itself a good enough system for performance and sound, or would you recommend buying the High flow cats to go with it?
Thanks.

theDreamer 04-10-2011 03:45 PM

For maximum performance you will want the HFC+exhaust, the HFC will also add a nice addition to the sound.

Fern to the Z 04-10-2011 03:52 PM

Thanks Dreamer,
Any huge difference in drone with 18", 12" or no resonator, how about stainless steel vs. carbon fiber mufflers does this affect sound or is it primarily weight?

thanks,
Fern to the Z

Ron 04-10-2011 04:50 PM

^^go back a couple of pages, your answer is there ;)

Fern to the Z 04-10-2011 07:05 PM

Found it Ron,
Think i'm going with HFC + straight up X exhaust (no resonator) and SS muffler, only because they sit low and I know i might be careless enough to rush through a speed bump. Opinions, comments, recommendations?

Thanks,

You could maybe have mine, I might keep my "40th anniversary" frame on

if you want the full power like i do... i went with FI Cat Back Exhaust System and Headers.

Fern to the Z 04-12-2011 07:13 AM

I'm tempted but I dont want to have problems with passing the emissions inspections down here in TX. Is there is a significant difference in power between going with FI CBE and headers vs. FI HFC with CBE?

bump for tony + are we going to keep updating the builds?

Thanks

Ok question for you guys. I bought my exhaust used and the person that owned it before me tracked the car so the marks seemed to be baked right in.

I used Mothers metal polish tonight. Worked very well and getting most of the black off but now there are still marks that you can't even feel. If you rub your finger over these marks it feels 100% smooth. I tried to take a picture of them but it doesn't show in the pictures, the only way I can explain it is; they are like brown birth marks IN the tips.

Any suggestions? The polish seems to get everything off that is on the surface but this doesn’t seem to be on the surface anymore, is this possible?

Edit: I have only used a microfiber towel so far, should I use something more aggressive?

Cambinese 04-13-2011 10:49 AM

Ordered mine yesterday:tup:

doublea2527 04-13-2011 11:58 AM

So due to my recent knee surgery I wont be able to install my exhaust myself this weekend and got a quote to install my exhaust with HFC. They quoted me 400-500. Roughly 4 hours or so. Good price or no?

I'm assuming this price is labor, disposal fee, and tax?

My shop in Chicago charges only 400 dollars total for my headers and exhaust.

Waiting not quite patiently for UPS to drop ours off!

That is the heat discoloring the stainless steel. You have to use a polish with abrasives, I used Meguiar's 105 compound on mine and it cleaned up all the staining and other imperfections easily and quickly with a microfiber towel. You can also use something OTC like Megs Ultimate Compound or any other aggressive polish you have.

Here is how mine turned out:

just wondering how long does 18" res exhaust take for installation? how much does it cost?? there is 1 guy, told me that can install exhaust @ his garage and quoted me $180+parts/materials needed. i have no idea what "parts/materials" he is talking about.... any input??

Wow what a great price... Bc there no extra parts with the installation

You shouldn't need anything, but sometimes there are missing bolts or whatever. I've gotten exhausts in the past that were missing a bolt or a gasket.

Fern to the Z 04-14-2011 05:49 PM

Just ordered my TDX CBE from Tony today, #313!!! anyway I have to weekend to finalize my order. I'm still on the fence between Test pipes (Straight up no resonator) and or long tube heads. BTW I'm thinking of going test pipes without resonator. Anybody tried or heard that set up, TP no resonator with TDX CBE no resonator with SS mufflers? every opinion welcome, thanks.

Ryan,
does your TDX CBE have a resonator, how much for the install of the headers and CBE? or did you do it yourself.

Ron 04-14-2011 05:52 PM

Tony u've got pm!

nashtyboy 04-15-2011 09:01 AM

276 installed!

UPS dropped off my 18" CFE package yesterday, and I had them put on today. Everything went on without a hitch, only issue was that the left rez is hanging slightly lower than the right, but the tips line up fine, so we let it be. Install took almost exactly an hour, with plenty of chit-chat and storytelling by the mechanic (probably 40 minutes of actual work). Figuring out how to get the car up on the lift without cracking the side skirts was probably the slowest part of the whole thing, ha ha.

Anyway, the exhaust sounds GREAT, and I'm very happy with the purchase. Not sure what people mean when they say there is highway drone, the system really isn't much louder than stock. It has way more bass and sounds awesome, but it's only a bit louder (at least with the 18"). I can definitely feel the HP gain with my "butt dyno", I'm going to have to force myself to chill for the next few days... 0-100 comes a lot faster than it used to.

I'll post some pics over the weekend.

Thanks Tony!

the ones in youtube are pretty deep and loud... but you say yours is barely louder than your stock?

Sibze 04-15-2011 09:32 AM

I have 18" res, mine are louder than stock

ryanboy 04-15-2011 09:35 AM

yeah it should be deep and very noticably louder than stock... you can barely hear stock.

This thread from Triple's should be a good indicator of the exhaust note you'll get Ryan. It sounds great indeed. Only difference he has the Berk HFCs, your setup might be louder since you are going with headers.

FI Exhaust Note 18" Resonators

tsolin01 04-15-2011 09:57 AM

With headers you're definitely going to be much louder than stock.

I have 12" res with stock cats and the note has settled down after close to 25k miles so far. Maybe I just got used to it but it's not as loud as I remember it being the first time I got it. It's still a really nice tone and the so called drone is not even apparent anymore.

sweet! thanx for the link! very helpful!

expecting the best... cant wait for May to get here :)

birdmanx1 04-15-2011 10:13 AM

Glad to hear that man, Triple's did us a favor with the vids posted. May is definitely going to be a loudly fun month :)

Ron 04-15-2011 12:32 PM

Got my order in! Now the waiting game begins.

nashtyboy 04-16-2011 02:02 PM

OK I take it back that it's not much louder than stock... I talked to the guy who I bought the car from, and he said that he had already popped off one of the resonators that come stock with the car, so mine was already louder than stock. ANYWAY. My point is that the FI w/18" rez isn't a LOUD exhaust. I think it's perfect. Quiet enough to have a conversation over the low rumble in the cabin, and sounds awesome & exotic when you punch it.

Here's some pics!
