Haha... at this point I don't know if I want to put the HFCs on or not. I just added them to the order just in case...

Haha... HFCs will definitely make the car sound a little louder, but I don't regret the benefits. Power feels like it kicks in 500rpm sooner, and it doesn't end there. Throttle response felt a bit sluggish at first after installing the exhaust and HFC. You'll even hear popping noises coming out of the exhaust, but it diminishes after a few weeks. At idle, the car sounds "lopey" as if it is off timing... but that's where the old school feeling comes back :-)

Think it works for a daily driver?

For daily driving, the sound is awesome! At cruising speeds and light throttle you don't hear it much, but it does drone a bit on the highway. So if you find yourself applying light throttle to maintain 60-70 MPH while going uphill, you'll start to hear the drone. It takes a bit of getting used to. What I find strange is that sometimes it is really loud, and other times it is not that bad at all... just wonder if it has to do with the environment. For example, the exhaust isn't as loud on the way to lunch. On the way back from lunch, it can get pretty loud (interior-wise). Overall, if you rev past 3k (even full throttle), the sound is sick and is nowhere near as loud when hovering around 2-3k.

On cold starts, it is pretty loud and deep. At a certain resonant frequency, the garage door starts to vibrate. My car is parked outside the office, and everyone can hear it on cold start. The same goes for the drone as it can slightly vibrate some interior parts.

It sounds bad, but it's not that bad at all. My car is a daily driver, and I'm pretty conservative. I don't regret it and will never go back to stock. Remember, I have the HFC and 12" resonators. Once I get the 18" resonated X-pipes, I'll update the video.

Thanks! With a good set of PC speakers (i.e., with a sub), one can simulate what the exhaust sounds like in person!

Yeah i stream through the PS3 via my HT Room:tup:. It really gives a much better idea of what to expect instead of crappy little Laptop Speakers and even normal Desktop speakers.

It dosnt do it justice really and in some cases makes it sound pretty bad with a higher pitch tahn it actually probably has. Again thanks for your extra little write up there mate.

B1nks, I apologize but in this huge thread I have forgotten, are you running ehxuast only are do you also have HFC or test pipes? Straight x-pipe or resonated?

I'd be interested in hearing how loud the 2-3k rpm drone really is. IMHO, this is the WORST range to have drone as you're sitting in this range while on the highway. If it's minor though, perhaps it's a non-issue. I'd ideally have no drone or drone in some range I rarely use like >6k rpm.

It gets pretty loud if you give it some throttle in 6th gear in the 2-3k range. It's enough to rattle a few things and drown out the music. If you ease the throttle and coast, you can barely hear it. So casual acceleration hovering below 3.5k RPM can get quite loud if you give it up to 50% throttle. The exhaust sound gets quiet once you rev past 3k. Even at redline it's nowhere near as loud compared to the 2-3k range.

Now this is with the HFC and x-pipes with 12" resonators... which isn't a quiet solution. Hence, I'm waiting for x-pipes with 18" resonators.

B1nks 09-17-2009 04:39 PM

Yeah I have the 18" and the same thing applies as Digi states. Maybe not loud enough to shake panels but still loud enough to drown out the stereo or something. I really wanna try the FI HFC for hiss purposes though. I may go back to stock cats and put some G3 on instead to make up for power diff or I may just add the G3. :)

Yeah my bad, I made that post while on my lunch break and was in a hurry. I have 18" resonators and that was just the exhaust. I have HFC on now and they make a difference but minimal. I'm thinki thinking the G3 will make a bigger diff than the HFC.

ZforMe 09-17-2009 05:45 PM

B1nks, did you make a video that I missed?

No, not yet anyways but Digi is very true about when adding HFC. The hiss that the Berks give off really ticks me off. I LOVED the exhaust before the HFC with the hiss. The car was dynod on a Dyno Dynamics at approximately 80 degrees with medium humidity for south Texas.:driving:

ssqpolo 09-17-2009 07:36 PM

its not just the berks that hiss. its pretty much all HFCs/test pipes
