Lol I would say go no resonators. My exhaust with CF mufflers was almost quiet as stock when cruising, with no drone at all. But give it just a little gas and it would come to life. You can always have a lager resonator welded on, but a smaller one not so much. They don't make THAT much of a difference anyway.

Thanks for the advice, Huck! What " resonators did you initially go with?

XwChriswX 04-18-2013 11:43 AM

Huck, since you've been tuned, what are your numbers? Could you post a dyno pretty pwease?

I don't have resonators. However I had a mustang gt back in the day with a borla exhaust and got resonators on it to help with the v8 rasp, 2 18" ones and they didn't do crap. Same on my civic.

Do it! You won't be disappointed, especially if you still have the stock cats. I swapped my order from 18" SS to 12" CF and it was one of the best decisions I made. Conversation/music is not a problem (which I was worried about), even with the slight drone you get in the 2000rpm range. I have mine paired with the Berk HFC's and feel like I could have gone non res CF and been fine.

Just my :twocents: ...

I can, but my tuner was not that great. He kept tellin me that the stock Nissan tune was the best and most stable and he would deviate from that. I ran a baseline of 299hp, he got me up to 308hp and 256tq. It was also like 101 degrees in th tuning bay so I'm sure that had something to do with it.

He also said he wasn't gonna waste time on maps and that they were "just a bunch of hype" so I told him to stop tuning and take it off the dyno. Didn't want to pay for an argument.

Must be why everyone that does "deviate" from that picks up so much power.

Are you planning on going to another (better) tuner and getting it done right? I'm curious to see how you do with the LTH's and Intakes you have.

Sh0velMan 04-18-2013 01:25 PM

This fall, I'm going to do some more dyno pulls with my current tune and see how things shake out with the new FI CBE... I was around 328 WHP with the Nismo OEM exhaust... hoping the FI CBE nets me some more ponies..!

 Something with my setup just isn't right then.

Well our setups are vastly different too..

PPE Race headers rather than FI
UpRev (tuned by Jared from UpRev) rather than the Cobb tuner
Nismo R-Tune intakes rather than ... ? (Though I am getting rid of them, or re-purposing their piping into something I like better)

I plan to. Just haven't had the time or the money yet. I should be around 320-335, but we'll see.

I understand the headers will be different, not questioning the headers.

I'm UpRev tuned as well.

And I have the AAM Intakes which are supposed to be "comparable" to Stillen/Takeda/GReddy in design, and similar to Akuma in terms of pipe diameter.

 I picked up over 10hp just from the tune alone. That's not even taking into account my numbers are oddly low.

XwChriswX 04-18-2013 01:39 PM

Shovel, I'll send you a PM. One sec.

Tony Just called me!!! My Exhaust #702 was shipped today! :) He said look out for the tracking number in the next day. Super happy and cant wait. Tony is the man!

Congrats!! Only 27 more in front of me. Ugh!

Huck 04-18-2013 02:43 PM

Yeah I had to push him to get what I got. Once I realized he wasn't going to be cooperative, I just asked him to take my car off the dyno and get everything done cause I didn't want to pay for something he wasn't willing to do.

Niche79 04-18-2013 02:55 PM

And they are already in the 800s now if im correct? sheesh when I ordered they were on like 620 or so, the new guys will have to wait even longer!

Sh0velMan 04-18-2013 02:56 PM

I think they're in the mid 700's now... They've seen a huge uptick in orders the last few months, I believe.

I'm 709 and ordered mine on the last day of January.

They were at 764 on 4-5-13.... They have to be creeping up on the 800's pretty soon. It's all that tax/mod money . I placed the order for mine on 2-26-13, #729

It's was mostly at 2250-2450 rpm that it would drone pretty bad, the GTmat made a world of difference. Plus I can turn my system up really loud (I mean really loud, I have alpine type r components and their 12" sub, I can hurt your ears) and the cops can't hear it outside, it totally cancels the bass.

Sent from my iPizzle using magic and new-fangled science stuff

So since you think its slightly to loud would you say the same set up would be better with 12 or 18" resonators? I currently have 18" ordered, which is what Tony recommended since I'm doing LTH's. I like loud exotic sounding exhausts but just don't want it overbearing

764? I'm 717 and pretty sure i haven't received mine yet?

Bullit79 04-18-2013 09:38 PM

Is there a difference in the throttle response? Or would that be more dependent on the intake setup than the exhaust?

Well I always say its easier to throw a resonator on there later on rather than take one off, but if you're concerned about it being loud it may be a good idea to get one. Before I installed the GTmat the volume was great except for at the 2250-2500 rpm range where the drone would really kick in. Since this is my DD I had to cut that down a little bit.

Throttle response will be increased by adding lightweight pulleys and/or a lighter flywheel. This only increases power and (if you get a tune) gas mileage. Of course, you'll probably be flooring it all the time to hear that sweet exhaust note so mileage is out the door.

Yeah it'll be my DD as well for right now. Man i'm so torn on this resonator stuff. I didn't have near this many complicated decisions with my Motordyne. haha

KingJoseph 04-18-2013 11:41 PM

If it helps, I have 12" resonators on CF and I don't even hear mine unless I'm dipping into the gas. Cruising, I don't even notice it. Accelerating, sure... but isn't that what you want?
