I ordered mine the other day too CBE w/18 resonators and the hfc. You must have called right after I hung up with Tony, Im #599. I feel like a kid on Christmas I'm ready to open my present!!!

KaienZ34 08-12-2012 09:13 AM

When installing the catback, do the bolts need to be torqued to a certain foot pound or just tight?

w0rM 08-12-2012 09:24 AM

In case you missed it in my thread, here's my stock vs. FI exhaust video. Thanks to KaienZ34 for swapping mid-pipes with me. Big thanks to Tony for answering every question I could come up with.

^was the non res too loud? I'm on the fence about resonated cbe vs non. I will be sticking with stock cats and just drop in filters.

Looks like resonated is quiet. I can deal with minor drone.

I'm thinking about switching to non resonated before it ships.

Any input guys/girls?

I never had the non-resonated installed so I can't speak too much to how loud it is but from what Tony told me, it primarily effects cabin noise. It's not going to make a dramatic difference in how loud it is outside of the car.

My long term plan is to go with resonated HFCs and a Stillen G3 so I felt like the non-resonated exhaust would just be too much for me. They sound awesome in the videos I've seen but the over-the-top drone with my target setup and a non-resonated FI would probably start to annoy me after a while.

future370zzz 08-12-2012 01:27 PM

^Really? Sound is sound. How can you make it quieter in the cabin without making it quieter(is this a word?:)) on the outside(what ppl hear).

Why is Kaizen going non resonated? I am assuming he want more roar on the outside.

Non res is a lot of roar outside lol my friend who lives about 1/2 to 3/4 mile away from me hears me start up and leave my house from his house.

If you've ever heard an exhaust that has a bad drone inside the cabin, you'd know that resonators can make a dramatic difference in how loud it is inside. That's why they're basically right under the center console of the car. That doesn't always translate into a huge difference in how loud it is when it comes out of the tail pipe.

From the Fast Intentions website:

Quote:

The resonators are strictly noise canceling devices. They DO NOT hinder performance at all. They are primarily designed to cut down interior noise resonance AKA "Drone"! The longer the resonator, the quieter the interior noise.

My resonated rattles the inside of my fireplace when I start the car in the morning. It wakes my GF up when I start it every morning and she's on the other side of the house. :)

future370zzz 08-12-2012 02:34 PM

So if the resonated and non res sound the same on the outside, why would anyone want drone on the inside?

The other side of the house vs 1/2 mile down the road is a big difference.

Am i missing something?

Well, I didn't say it sounded the same. I said "there isn't a dramatic difference". Some people want it as loud as it can get. If that's what you want, get the non-resonated.

Sorry but my GF gets really pissy when she has to sleep a half mile down the road so I don't know if it would wake her at that distance. If she changes her mind, I'll let you know.

1. The other guy said his friend could hear it a half mile away.

2. I said it wakes my GF across the house.

3. Yes, you are missing something. The ability to read and comprehend what you just read.

future370zzz 08-12-2012 02:57 PM

I didn't mean to offend you. I'm really blunt bordering on rude sometimes. Just trying to make the right decision on my exhaust.

Never heard it in person, just from youtube videos that seem to sound different from vid to vid.

Thanks for your input.

Thanks for your input.

If you want really loud go non res. if you just want a bit more volume over stock and the beautiful FI sound then go res.

Anybody got a update?? Are we in to the 560's yet?

speedfreek 08-15-2012 09:09 AM

As a wise member told me.

Go 18" if you are going to be changing out the stock cats....i.e. HFC, TP, or LTH.

Go 12" if you are going to keep the stock cats

Go non-res and any combination if you like it LOUD!

Hope that helps:tiphat:

I have 18" with HFC and I think the sound is perfect!

To me yes.. to others like you no. If it wasn't my DD I wouldn't mind having it balls to the walls loud.

One of my friends has a 350z with non-res HKS and it is LOUD! I can hear him when he leaves my house miles and miles away. I have ridden in it many times and it's not bad. But I can see having to drive it to work every morning I would get tired of it as I am not a morning person. I guess on the plus side I should be wide awake when I get to the office.

haha mine is my DD and it's probably just as loud as your friends 350. on downshifts with the rev match i can probably wake the dead and at full throttle it sounds sooo mean. i got 8k miles so far with this exhaust and it's amazing since day 1.

speedfreek 08-15-2012 09:27 AM

It sounds good for sure. I would like to check out a 370 with non-res F.I. just as a comparison. Everyone in my neighborhood hates his car cuz it is so loud so it is probably best I didn't follow suit. I was and still am trying to make it to Z Nats and possibly getting to hear one in person...but may be going to NOPI this year and don't know if I can swing both.

Now its the waiting game! I have been holding off on exhaust for a while, talked my self out of doing it several times with the 350 and have been looking at this one for a long time. Placed my order today and I am glad I did.

you will not be disappointed. trust me lol i got 9k miles with my F.I. exhaust and loved every one of them. Tony and his guys make the best exhaust on the market hands down

mdxj 08-16-2012 04:13 PM

They were really easy to deal with too which is always a plus. Thankfully the wait won't be too bad since I won't be home for a while but I am looking forward to it.

Same here, my buddies at the shop and the Nissan tech guys were drooling over the welds and the quality of the system. They couldn't stop saying how impressed they were with it. My buddy Keith actually said "I've been installing exhaust for 16 years and this is nicer than any I've ever done. No wonder you paid what you did, it was worth it!"

your PO is different from your tracking number, your PO should have your order number on it which just tells you where on the list you are. Fast Intentions has UPS send you the tracking number through their automated quantum tracking system and you can follower your exhaust from there after theyve sent it!
