I think R3V answered it. I just did not expect this car to backfire, (or what ever it is). I hear it a lot on loud V8s.

The noise you're talking about..."pop pop", is more of a backfire. This is most common in the nonresonated setup, which IMO is just "pissed off" sounding! It doesn't happen every time, but on an occassion when you hold your rev in the higher RPMs and all of a sudden let off, you'll get a "POP!" Puts a smile on my face very time! :D

Also while on the subject, I'm assuming the FI resonated HFC's would cut down on any drone noise compared to non-resonated HFC's. I already have the 18" resonated CBE, but wouldn't mind it being louder at WOT. Cruising volume is ok to me and I would like to keep it where it is, or maybe just a TAD louder.

EDIT: Off topic note. Love the sound of the exhaust when I'm driving in the parking garage at work. Also love the fact that some car alarms will chirp when I drive by

There isn't necessarilly an "advantage" to not having the mounting brackets, they just aren't required to have is all.

The RHFCs will cut down slightly, but not a ton. I personally have ran RHFCs on the G37 setup with 18" in the X, and currently run RHFCs with NONres X. Drone is more prone from the Xpipe then trying to stop is immediately out of the cat, but since you have 18" resonators in the X already, you would most likely notice an immediate difference w/ the RHFCs vs HFCs.

@1cleanZ - just want to say Thanks. Your YouTube videos helped me make my decision on no only FI for my CBE, but also NON-resonated. Love the note. Next mode will be FI RHFCs!

Thanks. That is what I figured. Can this sound be adjusted (made louder or quiter) by tuning he car differently?

I don't believe there is any way to adjust the sound level while tuning the car. If you'd like to give me a call, I'd be more than happy to discuss your question.

I was not referring to sound level of the exhaust, just the amount of backfire I guess. Might be a dumb question, maybe the level for the sound of the backfire and the level of sound of the exhaust are interrelated (directly or inversely).

I have no experience with engines larger then 4 cylinders and have never experienced backfire.

I don't think a phone call is necessary, I am not unhappy, just trying to learn stuff.

Thank you.

In case anyone wants a brand new exhaust without having to wait.

Are you running Long Tube Headers or High Flow Cats?

cooltoy 10-08-2014 03:40 PM

Nope. Just 18" CF FI.

I love the scavagening (if that's a word). I've actually learned how to make it do it anytime I want: consistent throttle pressure to a real quick tiny, tiny, increase (100 rpm or so) and a quick let off. Sounds like a race car going into a turn.

Tomorrow's the big day!

#1021 will be installed. I hope I love it as much as everyone else loves theirs.
I did another mod recently that everyone on the forum loved....me....not so much. So I'm a little nervous.

I was the one who called in yesterday wondering if there was a cobra in my exhaust. I'm getting used to the hiss, it's pretty interesting. Not bad, just different.

Yes, they are Tony approved! Frank, when I get around to it, I may put your pipes into production. We will call them, "The FP" option.

You don't get a hiss when coasting? Especially downhill? Seems to happen most as the engine holds the car back.

It sounds like more of a sucking sound than a leak. Although I've never heard it explained as to what it actually is.

Rusty 10-10-2014 03:54 PM

The hiss could be harmonics in the exhaust from the VVL changing positions. Best guess.

R3V 10-10-2014 04:09 PM

When you go catless it hisses at the xpipe. I could make up all sorts of **** as to why, but I really have no clue.

IMO this is the best exhaust on the market for both sound and performance, plus the customer service and build quality is top notch. Tony recommended that I go with the 18" resonators since I also bought a set of ceramic coated LTH's and I couldn't be happier, heres a sound clip:
