Question on muffler delete

I plan on doing what others here have as far as removing the muffler and having a muffler shop fabricate some custom straight pipes.

My question is, should I have resonators installed or just run straight pipes? I really like the sound of the straight pipes but I'm afraid it may be too loud.....

Not much space to put resonators there. You may be able to fit some small 12" long resonators, but not much more.

But I'd opt to have them. Should sound similar to the "washer mod" which actually sounds very good. I wouldn't know or anything *looks around suspiciously*. Are the mod police around?

Sure thing. Try to source some 8" long resonators if you can. Might be tricky, but those will fit the best.

Make sure they fab it up in at least 2.5" since the crush bending they use will be restrictive and will essentially make that section of exhaust flow like a 2.0" or 2.25" pipe. If they use 2.25" it could actually reduce performance over stock. The stock piping is actually pretty smoothly-bent compared to what most exhaust shops produce.

My exhaust is an x-pipe through the OEM resonators (so starting 2.5" then down to 2.25" out the back) and then through some Magnaflow 18" resonators (4" diameter) and then out through the OEM tips. Sounds amazing and is extremely deep. However, with straight through all the way there was a LOT of drone around 2500rpms, consider yourself warned. I fixed that with some side branch resonators now I have the best of all worlds in my opinion, super deep exhaust and no drone. The 2.25" pipes dont hurt power really since its all straight through. My car has a whole lot more power than it did with just the x-pipe and the oem muffler, and that was better than stock too. That muffler stinks! Will have pics tonight for you if you want to see them.

Did you ever have this done? I have the washer mod at this moment but was debating removing muffler and using stock tips also. I just worry how loud itll be since Im in SoCal...

Yes I did. I just had the muffler shop remove the muffler but I kept the tips/flanges and had them run two pipes.

I think it sounds really good but I'm not sure it's too loud compared to what some people say. What is loud to some, may not be loud to others.

In Texas, I've pulled up to cops at lights and never got one look from them (of course I wasn't going full throttle but I've got it up in the 3500-4000 RPM range, which sound really good). However, I'm not sure what the cops/laws are like in SoCal though. My wife has taken several road trips with me and has not complained once - which is strange, she usually can't stand loud cars.

What I would suggest since the laws may be more stringent there is to have some custom pipes built with new flanges and tips. That way, you can remove the stock muffler and throw those on there and then for inspections, you can put the stock muffler back on there.

As others have mentioned, there is some droning but I actually like that. I don't plan on doing any mods for my car so I just wanted to give it some "umphhh" in the sound department since the stock exhaust is so damn quiet!

I would take the loudness of a exhaust over hearing myself think anyday.
I just dont want to be come a pig spotter and get pulled over all the time for bs.
As long as your not full throttle'n it around I think I should be ok by the sounds of it. Its not so much how loud your car is, its what your car is out here. I have R8's or Ferrari's SCREAM by my work sometimes that are probably 20 times louder than what my car would be. But the minute someone buts a fart can on a Honda.. someone is gettin pulled over

As long as you aren't WOT, you'll be fine. Even if you have to go WOT from time to time, I don't think it will compare at all to a Ferrari!!

Here is a vid I made last year when I tried a muffler delete with custom tubes/tips. It sounds friggin' awesome and it's super loud. I kept it this way for about a month before order a true aftermarket CBE. I found that I was getting headaches after 20 minute drives and anything between 3500-5k RPM was skull shattering with drone.

you will need resonators otherwise it will be raspy as well. Personally I don't mind it, my car is probably the loudest one on here. However, remember you get what you pay for. You will probably have rattles and drove and some hissing but it will cost a lot less than a manufactured cbe

Washer mod

My wife gave me the OK to do that ghetto mod until we weld a custom exhaust, and it's been sounding good for the past 4000 miles. No drone either.

It's no different IMHO than having an exhaust cutout, so whatever.

I have the washer mod done at the moment and its just not cutting it, I love loudness and drone haha, Its just my main concern is the piggies that don't.
