The only problem I see with the more readily available rapid prototypers (or 3D printers as they're called in the consumer space) is that the plastic they use is this stuff called PLA. It melts at very low temps.

Some of the more commercial printers can do ABS, which of course has a higher temp and strength rating, but those machines are huge bucks. More than the car.
