I clean my drop ins every oil change and alot of crap blows out of them then (especially here in TX where sh!t is flying around like crazy). No matter what intake you have the filters should be cleaned on a regular basis, like every oil change to keep them at maximum performance. The K&Ns say you can wait 100,00K miles or what ever they say, but I dont wait that long to atleast blow them out. Now to me the process of taking off the bumper, the price and all isnt worth it to me, and when something is on and off a few times things have a tendency to break, but I do know that some guys like working on their cars alot and wont mind taking the bumper off here and there. Im just getting lazy in my old age.
I just took the bumper off last week to have a peek at them, still somewhat clean looking, just about 4k on them so far, I assume with the filters sitting directly behind the bumper, they arent exposed to as much dirt/debris as something further back and more out in the open.
