Default Exhaust guidance

I want to make my first modification on my 370z and the stock exhaust is not doing it for me. Its too quiet, I would like something louder but not overbearing. I checked the mega post about everyone and their suggestions. I am contemplating the AAM Short tails but for $400 I am not sure they will suffice for what I want since its just replacing the muffler, anyone have these or could give me feedback?

Also after looking through the post I am in love with the HKS HI-Power Catbacks but man are they a lot of money. I understand you get what you pay for but I need something more beastly than the stock but not screaming for a reasonable price.

Do you want more power, or just more sound? Will it be the last part of the exhaust system you change? Muffler deletes will be retardedly loud if you get test pipes down the line, and they don't do much for power.

Your best bet is to look through the classifieds here for a used Fast Intentions cat back and a set of test pipes or HFCs.

I am wanting more sound, the power I currently have is more than enough compared to my old vehicle. I also prefer to not remove my cats as they can throw CEL. As for the exhaust, I'm hoping its a one and done that I find what I like and it stays.

Removing the cats won't trigger a CEL with most of the good TPs or HFCs. If they do, a tune will take care of that easily enough. You might want to hold off on anything - the power will get old a few thousand miles in, and you'll go looking for more. It would be a shame to buy a setup you need to change out down the line. Fully half the people here start out saying exactly what you just said, and a year in they've bought every single imaginable bolt-on.

HKS is on the more affordable end of quality exhausts but it's super quiet. I had one and it was barely noticeable before I changed the cats. I still wanted louder so I went with Motordyne and I'm in love with it.

You would probably like Fast Intentions a lot. Loud enough to hear but not crazy loud and you can find them for sale used under $1000 all the time.

As an update I went with Rev9 cbe about a month ago. I love it, it sounds deep, growly, mean and didn't break the bank. My only gripe is around 2500 rpms it drones, not badly or loud but still noticeable. As I drive an automatic this is the sweet spot for cruising in 5th and 6th (roughly 50-60 mph). I usually shift the car down if its too much, its not always an issue though.

I have stood on the street and listened to others floor my car, and the word rice belong nowhere near it. You can hear this mean sound around the block, it sounds like pure power

Installing an Tomei exhaust is an option and will help a lot if you are just looking for more sound from your 370Z. The Tomei exhaust is pretty loud you should like it! After about a year you will want more I agree.

One way to find the exhaust you like is to hear other people’s 370Z is person or hear exhaust clips of different exhaust set ups and ask questions on the forums.
