not sure, it was one of the tuning runs so it could have been an overly rich spot or sudden timing decrease, but my guess is that it could have been the end of the run or rev limiter since the smoke didn't come out from under the car meaning that since it has open dumps the wastegates were probably closed.

Given the video, it appears the car is still pulling pretty hard and continues to after the smoke puff, so it shouldn't be the rev-limiter.

Either way...man, I want to find out BAD if the 7AT can hang with it...lol.

Then it'd only be a matter of rounding up the money - lol.

What is the puff of smoke before the rev limiter kicks in?

Unburnt fuel I'm guessing since these vehicles will be tuned to run a tad on the rich side.

yeap as simple a that

I guess some have never seen a turbo car, an aftermarket one at that, on a dyno and specially one that has no cats in it, just straight pipe all the way so nothing to catch those fumes

you should see mine LOL

You're right, I've not seen one.

I was just surprised that it happens like that - I mean, through a lot of RPM range, then all of a sudden two puffs of smoke...as if it's building up in the exhaust then gets blasted out....but I know that shouldn't be true.

...with F/I cars...typically they will run best/safest with an Air/fuel ratio of about 11.5 : 1...this is significantly richer than a naturally aspirated car which will like 12.5 : 1 or leaner....that being said...the unburnt portion of the combustion process can sometimes create black smoke...most cars with open wategates will expell the overly rich discharge through the wategate dumps before it can reach the tailpipes....but sometimes the wastegates will adjust momentarily to control boost and you get a diversion to the rear exhaust section......

...in short: The black smoke is normal...and depending on the cars plumbing/turbo setup you will see it intermitently....
