Average cost of FI + labor

I'd been meaning to FI my 40th for quite sometime now, so now I have been penny saving up for an FI kit, I was wondering if anyone would be nice enough to share me the cost of their FI kit + install and tune.

I don't have my exact quote on me, been 4 years since my SC was installed, but the one thing I can suggest on pricing is get as much done up front as possible if you can. The car comes apart a good chunk, and this is an ideal time to install thing such as new clutch, radiator, etc. and many shops will reduce labor costs since the car is already apart.

Typical shop rate is probably 80-120 dollars per hour I believe, and a typical FI install I believe is 2-3 days of work if all materials are on hand.

With all the supporting mods assume you'll spend up to 20k. If I can find it I'll post up some build numbers I came up with that was reasonably accurate. Mind you the 20K number is assuming NYC mechanic rates @ $100/per hr.

$15-20k has always been the number ive figured it would run to do it right.

From my list for a stock Z I have 22K plus 1.1k for extra work that will pop up.

The gauge cost is kinda high because if it were me I'd want to replace the stock 3 gauge area which isn't as simple as other options.
Also some things I have listed are not 100% necessary like the intercooler coating/heat wrap/nismo diff cover/etc.

Somethings can also be done earlier with no real impact to cost so you dont have 1 big bill. Like the brakes/diff/and exhaust can all be done at any time.

Thanks for that chart and all the advises so far. I have about 8.5 saved up since last year so still working on the complete fund. As far as everything else I do have uprev and full exhaust so that will save me on some of the parts.

Expect labor to cost at least $3k for a twin turbo install, which factors in the cost of removing and re-installing the exhaust, transmission, and engine cradle before installing the kit. If the shop is fully devoting time to a single car, that would be at least 2-3 days of down time.

Expect to spend at least $1300 on a clutch/flywheel/HD-CSC combo. Technically the labor cost is already included above.

It is recommended to get an aftermarket with more flow for the turbos, and also get high flow cats or test pipes to reduce restriction. Just as a word of caution, the HFC sits right after the hot side of the turbo so it'll destroy the HFC in a matter of months. Your best bet is to place the HFC further down the exhaust path. So far Fast Intentions has a turbo catback setup. Expect to spend at least $1200-1800 for a new exhaust and HFC or test pipes.

Gauges can range from $50-75 to $250-300 each. If you want to replace the stock gauges, the installation is tedious and will cost you 1-2 days worth of labor.

As for the cost of the kits, well you can look that one up.

Even before cooling, I feel exhaust is pretty much mandatory for a FI application. So important

Here is a copy of what I posted in the GTM reflection page. Some stuff doesn't apply here, but I'll still leave it in.

$22,000 for the car when I purchased it
~$10,000 for the TT kit
~$1,000 in gauges and EBC
~$2,500 in wheels and tires
~$1,500 brakes and suspension work
~$1,600 clutch / flywheel / HD csc
~$5,000 for the installation of the TT and all the supporting mods that I sent him.

I also paid ~$1800 for my exhaust right after I purchased my car.

Based on my experience, I would say $20K-$25K. Granted, I have had to deal with a few extra headaches due to GTM. This also includes the price of a clutch, gauges, etc.
