Well, torque and hp (power) are part of the same mathematical equation and you are forgetting the importance of gearing and the fact that the transmission works as a torque multiplier. At the end of the day, what really accelerates a car is transmission output torque!

What makes an s2k comparable in acceleration to, say, an older 350z is due to the ultra-high redline (ie. you can stay in each gear longer which makes for a faster acceleration) combined with appropriate gear ratios. Just keep in mind to ALWAYS downshift if possible (without going too near redline as you'd have to upshift again in a split sec). A lower gear is ALWAYS faster than a higher gear. The nature of a car's transmission.
