Default Engine Block Oxidation

So I had a look at the engine a couple weeks ago and it had some oxidation on it. I figured that was odd, since this is a brand new car, but didn't really have time to concern myself with it. I had another look today and it's all over the damn aluminum parts, engine block, etc...

Have any of you seen this on your new Z's? Seems very strange to me that a brand new car would be experiencing this already. Heck, the ole 2005 Ford Taurus looks better than this inside...

Certain Aluminum alloys + air and Moisture = Oxidation. Mine has some of this.
Stop it by sealing the surface (Paint, Powdercoat or anodizing)

Is this oxidation weakening the metal/parts ? Is this something to be worried/angry about that it is happening at less than a yr old ? I don't think we should have to paint/powdercoat/anodize the engine block and everything metal inside the vehicle..that would cost a **** LOAD OF CASH !

No...It's strictly a cosmetic surface thing. There will be no further deterioriation. You should see how bad Corvettes look under the hood because of the alloy they use on certain parts..

Fortunately aluminum oxide tends to not flake off like iron oxide. Once the aluminum oxidizes it should form a protective barrier. Unless you are in a marine environment you should be OK but keep an eye on it regardless.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I don't live near the ocean, however I guess I'm closer than some (Baltimore, MD area). I think this car sat around for some time and possibly sat around a sea port or something. I see an Oct. 08 stamp on a portion of the original exhaust, which by the way looked like it came off a 5 year old car as well. ;-)
