I'm looking into this swap with Godzilla. Does anyone know if the VR30 Red Sport 7AT is different than any other VR30TT 7AT? Are the internals the same? Chris at Godzilla thinks they are but couldn't positively confirm... My stock 7AT with Trans Cooler and Billet Flexplate is holding up for now but this upgrade will give me some good piece of mind...

I’ve seen 2-3 posts/articles that all claim the Red Sport is the same. My only wonder now is if I need to do billet flex plate as well. I’ve heard the DOJ billet one doesn’t fit with the swap whereas the FI does.

I have the billet FI flex plate. I read the stock one will fail with high hp. I assume that would apply to any 7AT since that is connection of crankshaft to transmission.

May be going this route in lieu of the BMW DCT swap. I could sell that DCT and cover most if not all the costs of doing the Q50 7AT swap.

A part of me wants to just do the SC kit first and run it till the stock 7AT goes though, and maybe by then we get more info on the 9G Tronic in the new Z and if that might be retrofitted somehow (am not hopeful though, and certainly can't just swap controllers over.)

I have about 1000 miles on my supercharged 370Z with the stock 7AT and Billet Flexplate and trans cooler. No issues from stock trans yet but I am aware of the limitations and have not repeatedly beat on the car. I am pretty mindful of the trans temps....

Looks like I may need a trans build soon.

My 7AT has started slipping. Going to try changing fluid and see if that helps.

Otherwise I will need to find a solution.

I don't know what to do. Should I get a Pure transmission, or Rjm, or IPT, or try the DCT conversion like SpecialtyZ is doing.

I am worried about the later one, because I don't know who in Australia would be capable of such a conversion.

CJM told me that it would take the most elite level auto electrician, possibly 80+ hours to do the wiring and setup for the DCT conversion on their own from scratch. Sounds a bit daunting. Not many options I have down here. Or just take a chance with a local performance trana builder.

Might really need to do something soon though.

My VR30 Swap should be completed today. I'll post some pics once done. I ended up buying one off Ebay and a local shop is installing it. I need a lift in my garage for these type of things!!

Awesome! I have a shop doing the same in 2 weeks when my supercharger is installed. I pointed them to the videos and articles I found, but I'd be really interested in know if your shop ran into issues if they hadn't performed before.

Remind me again - are you upgrading so you can turn up your boost, or just want more long-term peace of mind?

My stock vq37 7AT hasn’t failed yet but I figured I’d swap before it does.

Welp mine is in. Shop did it for me and said it wasn’t too bad. It’s a shame to hide that beautiful new Aluminum driveshaft…. Still tuning the Supercharger parts, though.

Have you logged your transmission temps? After cruising for a while on a 95 deg. day, then doing a 5.5k pull, I'm not seeing trans temps over 194 F. I don't have a trans cooler and am trying to gauge whether I might need one in the future. I'm thinking unless I do multi-lap HDPE, probably not necessary.

This is a great thread. I’m pretty much at a crossroad with what I should do with my automatic as well. I’ve got a 2014 automatic touring Sport with all the fixings and top guns “original”air to air supercharger and I’ve been running reliably between 550 and 590 whp @14 to 15 psi for over a year . Currently I’m 570whp/ @14.4psi and 450ft-lbs torque

I attribute all of my healthy longevity to my incredible tuner, Harry @z-tuner in Bradenton and the fact that I don’t consistently abuse the car. I do drive it to work or daily drive it 3 days a week and my wife drives it occasionally around town. Car runs only on e85 which probably helps greatly.

Car has stock engine, stock transmission and the headers are stock, everything else is upgraded with all supporting coolers.

Having said all of this I assume it’s only a matter of time before the transmission fails and I would love more power for the occasional street race or track day.

I’ve been leaning more toward ipt transmission rebuild and then a new differential and 3.9 gears with new fly wheel. Would love to hear suggestions from anyone.

I have a 25 row cooler that bypasses the stock cooler and uses -6AN lines all the way back to the transmission. So far this summer I have not seen over 175 degrees in any situation while driving the car and it's hot in DFW Texas.
