Default Safety concerns regarding rear mounted turbos?

Hi forum!

I was wondering if there are any safety concerns with a rear mounted turbo? In the Z with this type of setup, the turbo is positioned right underneath the gas tank. Do you guys see any potential hazardous issues with this setup? What would happen if you get rear ended and the gas tank is punctured? Wouldn't the gasoline ignite if it touches the super heated turbo? Are we talking about a Ford Pinto scenario here? Would you instanteneously explode?

Do people with this setup always look at the rear view mirror for fear of sudden death?

Lol.

All have possible safety issues, some more than others but yes I think the rear mounts r the most dangerous out of all of them.

Pm tower74, blackandorange, or chinook. those are the 3 i know of running the sts setup. i think they are all doin alright. tuning seems to be the most difficult part with these kits

Gas Tanks don't explode if they catch fire, they flame up long before there is.any chance of an explosion. So its no worse then a front mounted turbo with the fuel lines breaking and catching fire in the engine bay.

My only concern would be running long oil lines to the turbos. But it's probably not that big of a deal.

Right! But i am not talking about the durability of the kit itself but what would happen if you get rear ended with this type of setup.

theres alot of what if's. OP it doesnt matter where you get hit in this car it will get crumpled up. What you need to do is call your insurance provider and ask them if they can cover performance parts mine does they are covering over $30k of parts on my car.

You'll be fine as long as you don't store explosives in your fuel tank.
