Not necessarily. Ideally you want to inject it before the FMIC and after with very small jets vs. one large before the TB. The best water injection setups come with 3-4 nozzles, which are placed throughout the entire cooling system.

Interesting, I have seen Z's trip MAF codes and require cleaning due to sucking up water. I suppose the atomization of the water/meth injection makes the difference?

The Y pipe is taking shape for the F.I exhaust equped cars: (sorry not the best quality pic as it was taken with my phone)

Nice smooth transition on the inside (where it counts):

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...4161802401.jpg

Should have the flanges welded up to it tonight and install it. After that the rest of the down pipe will be welded, and that will support the turbo while the two banks are bing fabricated to feed the twin scroll.

Thanks to the awesome support by Charles @ cj-motorsports the fuel pump mod kit has arrived. The 750cc injectors also arrived yesterday, and the 340lph fuel pump is already here.

sasha that is some nice progress in just a few days, are you planning on an oil pan spacer for ease of tapping into the system or what are the plans there?

JWT oil pan spacers are onthe way...4 of them to be exact. No need to drill/tap anything with this kit.

The oil scavenging system will also be plug'n play:

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...D/IMG_4597.jpg

It will use an "add a circtuit" fuse holder. So you remove an OEM fuse from the OEM fuse box, plug this in and that is it. Then connect to battery gound and +12v and you are done.

ZtoG37 04-11-2012 04:38 PM

with the oil pan spacer will it have clearance issues for us lowered folks or will it sit above the sub frame

The 1" pan spacers sit below the subframe just a bit.

Just to add to what es14 said, if your worried you could create an aluminum plate a couple mills thick in the same shape at the stock plastic on the bottom. Not to mention you would have to hit something of decent size or be driving like you dont give a crap... Im pretty low...and this is in my shopping cart just need to save some pennies to buy it.

theaudir8fan 04-11-2012 05:03 PM

No love for the greddy oil pan?

Boosted Performance 04-12-2012 11:30 PM

Finally, another update:

At this point it is safe to say that the hard part is behind me on this build. Today I did the PITA section of piping that feeds one side of the turbine, coming from bank 1:

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...d/IMG_7067.jpg

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...d/IMG_7068.jpg

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...d/IMG_7069.jpg

I also had to modify the Y-pipe from what I have posted a couple of pages back. This is due to the space available between the dual F.I exhaust and the rear transmission support. I could have kept it as it was, and put a 3" 90deg bend right after the transmission. I would have also had to put another 90deg 3" bend. I do not like 90deg bend on the down pipe, especially that close to the turbo. Just a pet peeve I guess, and at the same time improves flow.

So to avoid that the Y-pipe will look something like this:

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...d/IMG_7050.jpg

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...d/IMG_7047.jpg

You can see it will be a rather straight 3" shot to the turbine outlet:

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...d/IMG_7048.jpg

Y-pipe remains nice and smooth on the inside:

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...d/IMG_7044.jpg

Turbo compressor will have an elbow welded to the outlet:

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...d/IMG_7059.jpg

There may be some that think this is hanging low. Well, I pulled a string from the front subframe to the rear skid plate and you can see where the turbo sits in comparison:

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...d/IMG_7063.jpg

And then, just because it is awesome....the 62mm billet wheel:

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...d/IMG_7055.jpg

By Saturday night I should have the down pipe welded up, and bank 2 fabricated to feed the other side of the twin scroll turbine. Once that is done, the manifold will be welded solid and I will move on to the waste gates.

The oil pan spacers should be here late next week, and the oil relocation kit should arrive tomorrow. Other than that, I am set on completing the build on schedule.

Dzel 04-12-2012 11:36 PM

Man it's a beutiful thing your doing. Will your kit when ready come with full exhaust option or just have to get with F.I. or whatever brand you want.

esfourteen 04-12-2012 11:37 PM

amazing work, this is coming along nicely

NeverBoneStck 04-12-2012 11:38 PM

Can u build a y pipe to fit other exhaust besides fast intentions ?

Boosted Performance 04-13-2012 12:41 AM

The kit will fit any exhaust system that would bolt up to the OEM Y-pipe and the F.I exhaust system.

There are no other options because I do have $10,000 to spend on all the exhaust systems, install them, just to just make down pipes for all applicatioins.

Your local exhaust shop can make a simple Y-pipe for you if needed. I bet it would only cost about $150 to od it too.

Dzel 04-13-2012 01:20 AM

I would (will) go custom exhaust on this kit

Jiaim 04-13-2012 03:11 AM

The FI exhaust is one of the most popular go this route and don't bother with others.

Good work !

wheee! 04-13-2012 07:22 AM

Looks great Sasha! I am looking forward to seeing this car on the road this spring! I know James is....!
+1 again for a great thread.

Scotober 04-13-2012 08:01 PM

I too like that it will work with the F.I. Exhaust.

Crumbytoast 04-13-2012 08:05 PM

Looks great Sasha..price wise how much r u looking at?

erkthejerk73 04-13-2012 08:05 PM

just installed my FI exhaust today getting preped for this build!

Good choice:tup:

Everything looks good Sasha love your work.

Boosted Performance 04-14-2012 12:53 PM

Thanks guys, and on that note mid day update:

Since the F.I exhaust uses OEM rubber exhaust hangers I decided that it would be wise to upgrade them. The reason for this is me not wanting any of the exhaust weight on the headers, as they will be taking care of the turbo weight. In order to do that, some poly exhaust hangers are used:

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...d/IMG_7074.jpg

Since the F.I exhaust hanger rods are only welded on one side, it is easy to move them up a bit to get even more clearance using a large wrench:

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...d/IMG_7075.jpg

Really does not take much effort to move these if needed. Although I think they are fine left alone.

With the poly. hangers the exhaust now hangs up high, and does not touch the skid plate. With the OEM hangers the exhaust was resting on the skid plate. Here is the clearance with the poly. hangers:

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...d/IMG_7080.jpg

Working on the down pipe this morning I had to make a cut on something on the car:

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...d/IMG_7082.jpg

The 6mm stud that holds the heat shield is very long, and needed to be trimmed back a bit. About thirty seconds later and we are good to go:

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...d/IMG_7083.jpg

Shortly after that the 3" stainless down pipe was born:

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...d/IMG_7084.jpg

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...d/IMG_7085.jpg

As you can see I am using a flex pipe. This is so that the rest of the exhaust does not move as much with engine twisting under acceleration. I plan on adding a V-band flange on the 3" section of the Y-pipe. This is where the OEM like exhaust to F.I exhaust conversion option will come in to play.

NeverBoneStck 04-14-2012 01:08 PM

So Sasha ..... Will this retro to the G 37 ??

theaudir8fan 04-14-2012 02:20 PM

Coming along nicely, great work

Boosted Performance 04-14-2012 06:04 PM

Got the other bank routed to the turbine:

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...d/IMG_7099.jpg

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...d/IMG_7102.jpg

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...d/IMG_7103.jpg

Three bolt flange transition:

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...d/IMG_7096.jpg

So now it is time to hook up the back purge (pump argon gas on the inside of the piping) and weld it all up solid. There is 32 welds all together...and that translates in to a lot of argon gas, filler rod, and time.

After that, I will move on to the wastegates.

oh man, it's beautiful! that's a work of art!

cdoxp800 04-15-2012 09:56 AM

Dammm Sasha. That's looking FANTASTIC. Man your tempting me. Can not wait to see it all completed.

memorylasts 04-16-2012 04:26 AM

Im stuck between this or a bike... I think this will win...

fuct 04-16-2012 09:20 AM

quality looking work but i have a question.....

is the added heat generated by the turbo in the location bad for the transmission?

Not at all. Just think how much ambient air is flowing through that area while driving. This is a common configuration with many domestic V8's these days, only they go with twin turbo kits.

Flyboy 04-16-2012 11:32 AM

Sugestion. Make the pipe that fits the malifold able to use the factory exhaust donut. All the aftermarket gaskets blow out after some miles are put on the car. Currently I am using black RTV and it is lasting but it would have been a lot nicer to use the factory gasket.

Sorry to hijack a little, where can one get those exhaust hanger mounts? I've changed my cats over a week ago and getting some loud rattles at certain RPM, I have a feeling something is touching somewhere and this may solve the problem.

Is it like a universal one or specific to 370z?

Dzel 04-16-2012 07:42 PM

Have you tried searching it on the forum?

elperuano 04-16-2012 07:57 PM

You must use google to your advantage....just search "polyurethane exhaust hanger". You want the 13mm hangers not the 8mm. You may still have to drill them out a bit, as they are tight, and very ridgid.

Small update later on as well, with a couple more pictures.

sfearl1 04-16-2012 08:32 PM

i've been looking forward to these updates everyday :D
