Default Carb approved kits for California

I've been wanting to supercharge my Z, but I live in California. In the initial press releases from both GTM and Stillen there was mention of a carb approved kit planned. Is there any news on these kits? Are they in the process of being approved? If so how much longer will it take? I've searched the forums on this but haven't been able to find anything current.

I personally don't think it's going to happen. CARB approval is a pain in the *** to get and it costs these companies money to pursue. However, there are more than enough willing customers to buy non-CARB kits. Don't get me wrong, I live in CA and would love CARB approval, but I have learned to live with the idea of getting rid of my car every few years and starting over to avoid CARB nonsense. I had to sell my STI in Texas before moving back to CA because of CARB.

I know GTM was going through a third party company who handles all of it to get a kit approved. The issue is you have to have everything complete, install guide, tune, paperwork, etc.

Not only that, you will probably have like 350-375whp to be carb legal. Might as well stay N/A

I wonder how many people here have had problems getting busted with illegal set ups? Would the STS rear mounted turbo be easier to revert back to stock for the smog checks?

No difference at all. Currently we only have the one pre-tuned offering. Our focus has been on achieving the warranty and CARB legality. Now that we have accomplished those goals we will begin working on the higher horsepower packages. The CARB kit is our standard 8 psi kit.

I see you're in Los Angeles, if you'd like to come down for a test ride I'd be happy to give you a ride in one of our cars. Just shoot me an email and we can schedule a time that works for you. My email is kmillen @ stillen.com

Can't wait to see what options you guys come up with Kyle. I still have not pulled the trigger on getting a custom pulley cut after we last talked, been too busy with work. I think I will wait for a while to see what comes down the pipe from your R&D.

Actually depending on the car, conditions, dyno, etc. most are 395-420whp with the CARB kit.

And with an optional drivetrain warranty available, with $8,000 of coverage, those looking for that extra bit of security in their back pocket can have it.
